Chapter 2:
Lunch

Jade was the third person to get to the lunch table. She took her usual spot between her best friends, Brooklyn and Rae. Jade was always glad that the lunch tables were giant. Violet, Jade, Brooklyn, Rae, Elizabeth, Jasper, Emmett, James, Jeremy, and soon to be Sean would all sit at the same lunch table. By this time everybody was here except Sean. The only reason Emmett and James sit here is because they love when Brooklyn and Rae make ogling eyes at them. They like everybody seeing that they can get some of the hottest girls in school to do there every command, thought Jade, look at Brooklyn and Rae just watching them! DISGUSTING! There your best friends brothers for crying out loud!

“That’s Sean” Jade murmured to Elizabeth while nudging her in the direction that the red-headed boy was standing.

“Wow, he is very handsome Jade. You where right” she whispered back while beckoning him to the table with a hand gesture. Leave it to Elizabeth to be the most polite, classy lady in the school.

Sean squished in between Rae and Jade. Emmett and James where staring daggers at the kid. Either there jealous of the way he is getting attention today or … there playing the big protective brother trait. I know the jealous look, and this just doesn’t seem to be it. Wondered Jade. She’ll have to ask later.

Just then Sean interrupted her train of thought, “Is everybody here … ya know?” he whispered to Jade. Obviously he wasn’t sure that they couldn’t hear him, or he would have said “witch” and not “ya know”.

“Yes” answered Emmett, while still starring daggers at him. Sean quickly glanced away. I never would have pegged him for a shy guy. What with walking straight up to her in class and asking her those questions Jade puzzled over.

“Why don’t we introduce ourselves to Sean?” said Elizabeth. Like I said, thought Jade, she was obviously trying to break the long, awkward silence. Ugh, Jade mentally sighed. What I wouldn’t give for Elizabeth’s politeness and class. Nobody had talked while she was muttering these jealous thoughts inside her head. She threw a quizzical glance at Elizabeth, who nodded. Jade cleared her through getting ready to intervene the long silence.

She turned to face Sean. “Hi, although we’ve already met, I haven’t got a chance to introduce myself and everybody.” Jade formally said. “My name is Jade. That,” she said nodding in Emmett’s and James’ direction, “is Emmett and James. Emmett is the shorter one. There my older brothers.”

“Nice to meet you” Sean said. Emmett grunted in acknowledgement, while James continued to stare. Sean’s warily turned to scan the rest of the lunch table to see who he recognized.

Jade continued to introduce people while pointing at them. “That’s Violet, my twin sister, next to her is Brooklyn and Rae, from our biology class, next to them is Elizabeth, my older sister, then Jeremy, my younger brother, and finally Jasper, who is also in our biology class.” Sean nodded at each person as Jade said them.

Brooklyn said “Not to be rude or anything, but me and Rae overheard what you were asking Jade. We all have a witch’s school after the humans school is over. It starts at eight o’clock. If you would like to join. It’s in Lady Frelox’s store. If you’re not familiar with it yet Jade could always show you.” Brooklyn was nudging Jade with her elbow as she said the last part. It looked like Jasper now joined in with the dagger stares. Only his look was not a look of protection like Emmett’s and James’, it looked almost as if he where jealous of Sean.

Sean replied “That sounds great! I wasn’t ever in a place where there were so many witches before. So there were never enough witches for a school.” Jade noticed that at the end of each sentence his voice was getting louder. Just then Rae jabbed him in the ribs with her elbow.

“God dude! Shut up! Why don’t you tell everybody in the school while you’re at it?!” Rae whispered with venom in her voice. Sean quickly looked down; he had a sheepish look on his face. Sean muttered something unintelligible and apparently Jasper heard it because he whipped his head around and threw a quizzical glance at him.

Sean turned his head up and said “Jade? Would you mind showing me where it is at? I’ll come over your house at 7:30. You live down the street from me don’t you?” Oh! That look he’s giving me. It’s so sweet! Of course I will help him, Jade mentally uttered.

“Of course I’ll help you Sean,” replied Jade, “Oh! Look at the time. We have to get to our next classes before we’re late!” Jade was the first person to notice the time. She got up and walked away. After about fifteen steps she heard someone jogging up beside her. She turned and waited while Brooklyn, Rae, and Violet caught up to her.

“Anybody got dibs on Sean yet?” asked Violet. Leave it to her to try to find a boyfriend. But I won’t let her have him, thought Jade.

“I don’t know if you won’t to try to take him, Vi” Brooklyn cautioned. She was trying to sound serious but, she was also trying to hide snickers, and Jade new it.

“Yeah. It looks like Jade already staked a claim” Rae joked. But then she burst out laughing as Jade’s checks darkened. Violet looks very angry. She was the pretty one, the one that always got the boy, not me. She must be angry enough to kill. Vi could get very angry and very fast, Jade thought. As Jade realized with a shock, that she truly frightened of her sister right now.

Violet stalked off with a “humph” but not before saying “Sister? He will be mine. That much is true. And you better watch out. I’ll see you at home.” But the last sentence made Violet sound like she was going to give Jade hell later. Brooklyn looks hurt Jade noticed. She’s so fragile and small. She’s not used to violence, and you can tell just by Looking at her. She looked exactly like Lucy. She was the same small height too, which was a mere four feet ten inches. Rae looks surprised, but she also had that look on her face that said “I don’t want you to know what I’m thinking.” Rae was as tall as Elizabeth, she was studious looking too. Her dark brown hair was just as curly as James’ and Emmett’s, and it hung about an inch above her shoulders. When her brown eyes looked straight into your eyes, it seemed that she could see straight into your soul.
