Writer's Journal

Chapter 2
My eyes slowly opened as my alarm clock rang with music from my Ipod. I stuffed my head under my pillow, wishing to God that today wasn't really the day that I had to start high school. I had never felt so unprepared before.
But I knew that today was the day, so I slid out of bed as fast as I could. I really hadn't slept well, and I checked my dresser mirror for bags under my eyes. I found no bags, but I looked exactly like a nervous wreck should; my hair was all over the place, and my eyes looked tired bloodshot. I ran my hairbrush through my hair a million times before it finally looked decent.
I threw on my under clothes and a red tee that had been picked out yesterday by Aunt Eli, along with black-white-gray checkered shorts. I knew that good first impressions were hard to make, but my outfit would easily make a great impression. Aunt Eli made sure I was fashionable for school.

I ran downstairs, my hair straightened and styled, my teeth brushed and clean, and my makeup on. I slung my backpack on my back and grabbed the apple and protein bar on the counter.
"You're forgetting something," Aunt Eli said in a sing-song voice, pulling her breakfast sandwich out of the microwave.
"What? Is it my hair? I should have put some barettes in..." I mumbled.
"No, it's not your hair. Look down." she grinned, taking a bite from the sandwich.
I looked down, and groaned as I realized I had no shoes on. I slipped on a pair of flip flops, the easiest pair of shoes to wear when you're in a rush, and went to the front door.
"Love you. Have fun!" Aunt Eli called after me.
"Love you, too," I called back, closing the door.
I was off to the bus stop, and that's when the butterflies really got to me. I mindlessly ate my apple and protein bar, fretting about where I should sit on the bus. I threw away my trash in a neighbor's garbage container, and the bus stop was not too far. It was actually starting to pull up. I miserably took my time before I stepped up the stairs of the bus and down the aisle.
There weren't as many people as I thought there would be in the seats, but there were still alot. All the students were talking to eachother and too involved in the conversations to notice me. I took that for granted and hurried into an empty seat.
There were three more stops before the bus made it to school. On the last stop, only three boys got on. But only one of them immediately attracted my attention.
His hair was jet black and longer than all the other boys' on the bus. All of the other boys had buzz-cuts. His skin was pale white, and he wore dark clothes. He had some of his hair in his face, so it was a bit hidden. But I thought he was very attractive and mysterious.
But here's the wierd part; I attracted his eye as well. He stared at me as he got on the bus and wouldn't stop. I tried to keep my eyes away from him, but it was difficult. When he reached my seat, he immediately sat down next to me. I was blushing pink as he continued to stare at me.
"Hello there," he said kindly.
I couldn't keep my gaze from him, so I looked him in the eye. His crystal blue eyes were so beautiful, it caught me off guard, and I was speachless.
"You're a new face. I haven't seen you around before. May I have your name?" he asked, a slight British accent detected.
"My name is Maya." I responded quickly.
"Cool. I'm Morgan." he smiled.
My heart skipped a beat as I saw his perfect smile. I couldn't help but feel bubbly and I smiled back.
The bus pulled into the school lot, to my horrible luck. Morgan stayed put in his seat as everyone else on the bus got off. Many students started to whisper as they saw us and passed by us. When everyone was in front of us, Morgan stood and offered his hand to me. I took it without thinking and he pulled me out of the seat.
"So, wanna be my new best friend?" he asked with a playful smile.
"Uh, sure. At least now I know someone." I said with a greatful sigh.
