.:.The Pain.:. (Part. 1)
"I love you."

The demon froze then, a natural, cold, calm feeling helping to force his eyes closed no matter how he longed to keep them open. Axel didn't want to leave Loic there. Not in a million years and as the chilling, limp feeling of death overtook his body he could vaguely hear his lover screaming for him not to leave. The angel gripped the cloth at the demon's shoulders fiercely as tears burned his eyes. There was just no way. This wasn't happening. Axel had promised him five years. Five years of memories, of loving, of happiness. Five years to help with little Alessa... "Damn it, Axel!" Loic screamed, pressing his face down against his dead lovers chest as he repeatedly hit against him, "You promised five years! Y-you said you wouldn't leave me alone again, and you said.. You promised me..."

His voice broke as the tears spilled over, cascading down his cheeks as the pounding ceased. The angel could see a few fiery strands of Axel's hair feathered out over his shoulder at the very edge of his vision and the comparison of fire to his lover's hair brought him to the realization of just how cold the other in his arms was. Loic could almost swear he felt his heart stop along with the demons... Oh, because that was where he belonged. Always with Axel.. He couldn't stop the tears, not now that memories were beginning to flood every fiber of his very being. It was like a soundless film... Axel taking his hand and snatching the angel closer to whisper in his ear. Loic knew what had been said, he'd long since memorized the words. 'I love you, Loic. I always will.' The image fell away and another took its place. This one was a little bitter... If only he'd never said those words.. the look in his demon lover's eyes wouldn't be forever burnt to the back of his memory. The image was of Axel... he looked angry and it was after one of their first few fights, after their first few times making love... After their first times saying 'I love you'. Loic was glaring up at him, and even without the sound he knew what had been said. 'You're a demon. You don't even know what love is!'

"Go away!" Loic had sensed them there for a little over a minute, staring, silently giving him time to sit with his lover- body and soul. Loic wasn't ready for them to take him. Not yet. He wouldn't let them. H e needed more time. Surely they could understand that above all things. It wasn't like they needed the body or soul right quick... Loic could cry his last goodbye's in his envelope of disbelief, "Loic Van Keuren," a woman's gentle voice sounded after a moment, "You know better than most that we cannot leave without our soul."

"Axel's soul is not just something you can own. It does not belong to anyone. Especially not the likes of you." his voice was bitter and broken as he clenched his eyes closed against Axel's chest. There was no heartbeat. The demon's chest didn't rise, didn't fall. His body was cold under the angel's, so... Why did Loic still fight? ...he didn't want to let go. God, more than anything it would hurt to let go. It would be much worse then the twenty year seperation. That would be nothing in comparison, "Go before I kill you." Loic ground out, his translucent green eyes clouded with a darkening jade as he looked directly at the woman who had spoke a moment ago.

"We cannot."

The angel dug his nails into Axel's clothing before slowly pealing himself away so that he could look her and her two henchmen in the faces, "You're not taking Axel anywhe-" before he could finish his sentence the two henchmen were out of sight, jumping out from behind him to hold him in place and silent as the woman robed in black spoke, "Loic, child of heaven and earth, you have no power over the death angels. We must leave with our soul-"

"He doesn't belong to you, he belongs with me!" Loic screamed, the tears once again burning his eyes at the reality of his lovers death, "He's mine. He belongs to me. I belong to him... You can't have him..." The angel half hoped his screaming would wake him from this nightmare and find him in bed next to his fiery demon lover who would still be breathing, be talking, be laughing, be loving, be holding him. The Axel who would be there when he woke up would still be alive. The woman had been right. Loic hadn't the power to do anything for his lover's soul or body... So then why? Why did she suddenly demand that the men let Loic go so that they could leave? Leave him with his Axel.. His cold, dead, unbreathing, unmoving demon lover. His Axel... Loic would waste no time once they were gone. The angel ran back over to where he had been and knelt before the dead man. How he'd always dreaded this, "I love you, too..." He whispered finally as he leaned down to press a soft kiss to dead, cold lips. He'd never forget the feel of those arms around him.. Those lips against his.. Axel's smile. All of it. Every detail would be stored away in the back of his mind and every tear would represent the pain, "My Axel..."

~

After curling in between Axel's arm and chest, Loic had fallen asleep, only to be carried to his tree by the woman and men that had originally come for Axel. So God had called them away, just to give him some time to part and now she was letting them go through with what they needed. Loic still felt oddly compelled to find them and steal his Axel... He didn't have anything to remember his lover by... Except... The angel let his eyes open so that he could look upon the child they put in his arms. Alessa. She looked so much like her father... His red hair... Eyes of blue, gold and green. Pale skin... And those facial expressions... But she seemed completely calm now, as if she understood the angels heartache but didn't know the source. It went unspoken, but Alessa was the most important thing to him anymore...

How many years had it been when he got the news? Seven? Nine? Axel was going to be... Reincarnated. God and Death were only going to keep him seperate, that much he should have known... Or, that much he'd made himself believe before the day Ieo came to him and told him that as a guardian, he was to be assiged to one 'Leax Koushi'... The three year old boy with the blue and gold-rimmed eyes. His Axel's soul was in that boy and he was going to get to watch over him... Loic wasn't sure he'd ever been more excited.

Young Leax was an energetic boy who grew before Loic's expectant eyes who watched from a far knowing that 'Axel' would be able to see him... It wasn't time for them to meet, wasn't the time to fall in love for as of yet, Leax as still only a child... Loic could wait while Axel grew in Leax. And even that came soon. Leax had just turned sixteen. The only piece of Leax that screamed Axel to a Loic who'd memorized everything before they took him away, were the boy's eyes and maybe the almost hint of red in his dark brunet hair, and apparently Axel was beginning to show himself a little mentally as well. Leax started a fight with another boy because of something they said about a scar on Leax's wrist. Scar? It couldn't be that Axel would ever do such a thing... Loic only caught snippets, but the next thing he knew, Leax/Axel had drawn a knife. Immediately, Loic decided Leax was old enough to see him even if the Axel inside would remember. Quite frankly... Loic would have been a little disappointed if Leax didn't react at all. What if it wasn't who Loic thought? What if it wasn't Axe-... But who else would have those eyes?

"What the hell...?" Leax dropped the knife and let the other kid run as his eyes narrowed, locking onto Loic, "Who are..." His mouth pressed in a hard line as he looked the boy over. He had this feeling he was supposed to know him from somewhere, but it wasn't clicking. But the guy looked so familiar... Leax took a step back, and then another before the boy reached out in the middle the teen's turn around and walk away, "Where are you going?" The raven haired male asked. There seemed to be pain in his eyes.. and... Leax hurt for him, "Away from here." And with that, the sixteen year old ripped his arm away so that he could run to his house..

~

"So... You're some kind of... Angel?"

"Your guardian. Right."

"Where have you been all this time? I wish I would have met you sooner..."

"What are you talking about?"

Leax and Loic had grown relatively close in a matter of days, due to the familiarity Leax felt for Loic, "I feel like I know you, but I'd never forget a face like yours."
