The Hidden
By: Madeline. J.M.
Chapter 1
The Caller

In a land hidden, from government and technology, there was a group. This group was called Contak`u. These people thought there was no other land, and that valleys stretched forever until a ledge they call the edge of everything. They had no idea or knowledge of the other beings like them. It wasn’t unusual, for nobody who was introduced in technological advances or modern society knew of these people…until now.
“Hello?” Alice Shelling said, as she picked up the ringing phone. “Alice?” said the voice on the other end. “Who is this?” Alice frantically asking. “Alice we need you to meet us at Burger Kind on Parker Street.” “I said, who is this!” All the caller had left for a response was a click and a dial tone.
Alice hung up the phone and proceeded to the kitchen. Pots and pans sizzled and cracked as she cooked a hot meal for her and her son. Her son was only 9 years old and had no idea of what his mother did for work. His mother was trained in the medical services, or in other words a doctor. Her son Jake Shelling called from the living room, “Mom! Is dinner ready yet?” Alice turned her head toward the living room and replied in a sweet and motherly tone, “Soon hunny.”
Suddenly, the phone rang. Alice rushed to the phone. “Hello?” said Alice, with a little ring of panic in her voice. She feared it was the mysterious caller again. “Alice, the police will arrive in about two minutes. “What?” There was no answer. All for a response again was a click and a dial tone.
Just then, there was a knock at the door, a very loud one. Alice looked through the peephole on her door. Indeed the police were there. She pulled open the door. “Oh thank god your-“ Alice was cut-off by a police officer. “Ma’am, we don’t have time. We need to go, now.” Alice felt a tug on her shirt. It was Jake. “Mommy.” Jake looked up at the police officer and then to his mother. “Alice put her arm around Jake and said softly “It’ll be okay.”
Alice looked up at the officer. “What’s going on?” she said concerned. “Ma’am we don’t have time. I will explain it all to you later. Now we have to go!” “But my child-“ she was again cut-off. “We have an officer who will take care of him.” Two police officers proceeded to take her out the front door to a squad car. Jake watched in horror.
Alice was sitting terrified of why she was in the car. “Tell me what is going on.” Alice demanded sternly at the officers in the front of the car. “Ma’am, I said I will explain later.” Alice sank back down in her seat. The two officers conversed with eachother.
The car finally came to a stop. Alice peered out the car window to see a brick building surrounded by army guards. Alice looked for any signs of a worried expression on the guard’s faces. She only saw blank faces staring back. She opened the door to the car and stepped out on to the cold, wet, pavement. She closed the door behind her with a loud thud.
Her heeled shoes clicked forth as she was led in to the building by a group of guards and the two officers. The corridors of the building were long and narrow. The center of the building branched out to all the other corridors. The center of the building had a dome like ceiling and rough concrete floor. There were roughly around two hundred guards and officials there. At the front of the room stood a large screen with a government official on it.
All the chatter between the people in the room seemed to quiet when the official on the screen cleared his throat. “Many of you know why you are here.” Said the official. “Some of you may not. We recently discovered a society that may be plotting against us. They are called the Contak`u. They are a native like tribe with similar features to us humans. Whatever they are plotting must be stopped. We have no idea how they discovered we exist. All we know is that Rodney Herring,” a picture of Rodney popped up on the screen” Was driving in to A small area in South Africa and spotted a group of people. Apparently they noticed his technology and were attracted to him. They took him hostage. The next day, he was reported missing and the government traced his cell phone signal. When we found him, he was abandoned in the middle of practically nowhere and looked like this.” A picture of a gruesome and bloody man appeared on the screen. “We need a thorough medical analysis to determine what caused his death. There were no actual wounds. It was like he bled out from the pores of his skin.”
Alice looked at Rodney’s picture. There were small blotches as if to say the blood had been sucked from his skin. Or in other words a hickey, many hickeys. She could only imagine the group that did this to Rodney. The man on the screen said, “We have 4 doctors that will be doing an autopsy on Rodney Herring’s body. The four people are Alice Shelling, Harris Albrit, Ashley Commons, and Elmer Skulling. These people are highly trained in medical advances. I believe that these 4 can handle this job well.”
Two guards grabbed Alice by the arms and led her to a bright, empty, white, room. The only thing in there was a table with a cloth over something. Beside that was a set of basic medical tools. Alice paced the room. Shortly after, 3 other people were escorted in to the room. One of the 3 stepped over to the table. He pulled back the cloth to reveal Rodney’s body. He reached for the table of tools. Alice had never preformed on a deceased person. Alice stepped slightly toward the table and peered over the man’s shoulder. “Hmm”, said the man.
He then sliced open Rodney’s arm. The other man and woman just sat and watched. The other man stepped toward Alice and offered a hand. Alice grasped the hand firmly and said “Alice Shelling, and you are?” “Elmer, Elmer Skulling.” Just then the woman still in the corner stepped forward as if to say “Alice has no chance with Elmer!” She reached for Elmer’s shoulder and pressed one finger down gently twice. Elmer spun around to see the tall, thin, brunette woman standing there. She had a grin that was if to say directly to Alice, “Haha. He is all mine now.”
Chapter 2
The Analysis

On went the autopsy. The remaining examiners scurried over to the table. In the incision that Dr. Harris Albrit had made in the subjects arm, lay white, dehydrated tissue. Alice thought for a moment. “I know what it is!” Everybody turned to Alice and waited for her thoughts. Just then, Elmer shouted out, “He’s stigmatic!” “No” said Alice. “But, couldn’t it be a very severe case of hemophilia?” Harris then looked back toward the tissue. “It indeed is a possibility.”
There was a small cabinet in the corner of the room. Alice paced over to it. She reached in and pulled out a series of needles and swabs. She then reached for a plastic container with several numbers and letters on it. She found one that said something about external bleeding. She turned around and saw puzzled faces staring back at her. All the other medical examiners where staring her down as if to say, “You have to be kidding me. A drug test? That’s so old school.”
Alice proceeded to the body and injected the man’s fleshy arm with a needle. She let it sit for a moment while she hustled over to the cabinet and got some resolution. She poured some in the container. She gently placed it back in the cabinet and walked over to the body once more. She took the needle from the man’s arm and stuck it in the resolution. She placed the container on the table with the tools. She took a small knife and made several more incisions on the deceased body. One in the leg, one in the neck, another in the stomach, and the last was made on the skull.
Harris stepped along to the table with supplies. He picked up the container with the needle and resolution in it. He glared at the side of it. It was positive for Plavix. “Alice…You’re a genius! He tested positive for Plavix and Plavix is a drug that thins your blood. Therefore it would infact look much so like hemophilia.”

“Ah, but not so fast! It could also be Lovanox Or Heperin. We should test for those too. It could have been a multiple overdose.
