"I've been in such a good mood lately. Don't come and ruin it for me" is something that I would like to tell a whole shitload of people.
As a friend, I'm willing to listen to you however long you need me to. I will hear your complaints and help you in your self-pity. As a friend, I am willing to sacrifice my own doubts and sorrows in place of yours. Unfortunately, as a person, I will not do so. I will not sacrifice what little sanity and control I have left...for you. I don't want to hear what new little, insignificant nuance about your parents has yet to happen. I don't want to know about how you doubt your life and skills when I have yet to find my own. No more do I want to hear how the world is so unfair to you when I am to be a slave to your life. What about me?
As a friend, I want to hold your hand every step of the way, ensuring that you will not fall or stumble on your path to greatness. I want to see you succeed and smile, happy that your life is finally yours. Every little stolen smile and laugh is something I cherish with all my heart. But as a person, I cannot hold your hand. I cannot guide you to your glory. There is still mine to accomplish. I still need to find my path in life. There is no time for you when I still have to become something. The friend I am shelters you from the rain and wind. The person I am doesn't even have enough ability to shelter herself.
So you see my dilemma. As a friend, I would sacrifice my world and my hopes in order to see you reach your potential. As a person, I am worried about myself and what I can do. I've been concentrating on your happiness so much that I found myself thinking...what about me?
