For the first time in over the last four centuries of my life, I feel utterly useless.
People have been taken from this place... powerful beings have been whisked away like a taper in the wind. But I myself am still here...
Guilt riddles my mind.
I was an eyewitness to One's capture of Calo, while I myself was unable to do anything to prevent it. For the first time, I saw fear in the man's eyes... much like there was in my own many years ago. I could smell his fright. He knew what was to come, when I myself didn't. I still don't. I can only imagine what he is going through, and that's all I'll be able to do.
My mind is still racing with the dangerous possibility that the hero Gage presented to me recently-- that if something is not done about the Numbers, then... the child I am currently nurturing will be in grave danger. As many stories as I've heard about Master Jing fathering other children, I am unwilling to compromise what I have been given.
While the residents of this place are gathering, I am able to do nothing. Not out of fear, but out of common sense.
How I wish, for the first time since I can remember... how I wish I lacked it.
I feel trapped... immobilized.
What is wrong with me?
