She smiled as she opened her eyes on this most perfect morning. Her smiled stayed with her as she sat up and stretched. It remained even after she put her glasses on and looked in the mirror at her messy hair and make-upless face, something that hardly ever happened anymore. She ran out the door to greet the small pug that waited for her on the other side. She half danced half ran out onto the tile, the dog nipping happily at her sock covered feet all the while. Her feet slid slightly beneath her, giving the dog a small advantage.

The house was empty, which was not at all uncommon these days. She stopped and sat suddenly on the thick, plush carpet that sat in the Arizona room. Roscoe, the pug, jumped in her lap and licked at her face as she gazed out the giant window at the still, quiet golf course outside, her smile still stretching across her face. She sighed, content for the first time in years. She knew, then, that this must be what true happiness and inner peace must be.
