The Lapis Tribe
No one really knows how the tribe started. Some say it was Cities that started it. Others say it was Wilds. No one really knows. But what is known is how the tribe has turned out. Dwelling in the Snoqualmie Pass area, they tend to be rather separated from humans for the simple fact that most humans just can't keep up with them. The Lapis as a whole refuse to give anything less then their all. In hunting, in playing, in loving...and especially in their spirituality, and the singing and dancing that goes with it.
The Lapis believe there are nine Gods under Puma, one for each Element: Ruby of Fire and Love, Sapphire of Water and Healing, Quartz of Earth and Loyalty, Topaz of Air and Knowledge, Citrine of Lightning and Inspirationg, Jasper of Wood and Crafting, Hematite of Metal and Hunting, Onyx of Night and Death, and Diamond of Day and Life. And Puma is greatest of all, the Amethyst God who rules over the Akasha and Spirit. Any prayers are offered to one of the ten, and there are nine celebrations during the year for them: one for each God, with a Rite for Puma at the beginning of each one. -will type these later- Prayers are songs or dances offered to the gods with a specific thought behind them to give them power to reach the Gods.
The Lapis are rather simple to understand...the Gods gave you the chance to live, and to make them proud you must give your all. Those who don't are generally ignored or prodded to do better (depending on their age). They love their Gods, love their land, and get joy out of the simplest of things at times...like the brilliance of the sun after a snowstorm clears or the hatching of a new bird.
Names are derived from gemstones and jewels, but is usually only a piece of it. For example, Laz for someone name for a Lapis Lazuli, or Ryl for someone named for a Beryl. Any gemstone is up for grabs EXCEPT the nine Gods and the Amethyst. Any derivative of those names is reserved for those born to be the next leaders of the Lapis. Each member wears a piece of the gemstone they were named for.
The Lapis is lead by a group of ten priests, with one ruling over the other nine. The Akasha is the priest for Puma, and overall leader. It is the duty of the Akasha to ensure the well-being of the Lapis and lead them in the celebrations. The Fire is the priest for Ruby, the Water is the priest for Sapphire, the Earth is the priest for Quartz, the Air is the priest for Topaz, the Lightning is the priest for Citrine, the Wood is the priest for Jasper, the Metal is the priest for Hematite, the Night is the priest for Onyx, and the Day is the priest for Diamond. They conduct the rites and ceremonies related to their God, and together advise the Akasha. However...if they think the Akasha is in the wrong, a vote can be taken and if 8 of the 9 vote to, they can veto the decision of the Akasha, for the good of the tribe.
The everyday members fall into ranks. Hunters provide food for the pride, Healers keep everyone strong and healthy and help with births, Guards protect the borders, Nannies watch the cubs while their parents are off and teach them the ways of the Lapis, Crafters make things for the tribe to use or wear, Acolytes aid the leaders in their religious duties and are the ones to go to if one feels they cannot make their prayer strong enough alone, and Youth are the cubs and juveniles of the tribe, expected only to learn and play and explore.
