Chapter 3
Chapter 3
"Where is it?" asked Ami. She walked around the halls of the female's dorm, trying to find her room. She had just finished going through the welcoming cermonies. She looked around some more until she found it. Then she took out a card and swiped it through the door lock. The light turned from red to green and unlocked. Ami made her way through when she saw another female. "Hello?" the female said. Ami gave a brief wave. "You must be my roommate. I'm Sara.". Sara wore the same uniform Ami wore, a navy blue jacket with the Guardians' symbol on the right and navy blue pleated skirt. "Ami. Nice to meet you." Sara's green eyes widened at the realization of the uniforms too. "We're in the same group then. What are you training for?" "Mobile Defense, you?" "Resident Security." she answered. Sara ran her hand through her short blond hair. "This must be your first day. I've been here for almost a month now. I hope we can become good friends." Ami smiled a bit. "I hope so too." Sara got up. "Once you're done packing, meet me at the dorm entrance, I'll give your the tour."
Just as Sara said, she gave Ami the tour of the Guardians Academy. When she could, she gave a through explaination of the rooms in question. The more time they spent, the more time Ami felt at ease. It was almost as if the two knew each other for years. "So what were you doing before joining the Guardians?" Sara asked. "I was going to attend the performing arts college on Neudaiz." Ami admitted. Sara was impressed. "That's a prestigious college. You must be really good." Ami shrugged. "Not really, I was going to audition to get in actually." "Oh, but that's still good. Me, I was set on becoming a Guardian for a while." As they walked. They noticed a group of females around a male. "What the hell?" Ami asked. "Oh, that guy's only been here for a few hours and the girl's fawn over him. Ami sighed. "Pretty stupid to be fawning over a guy you barely know." She didn't watch where she was going and bumped into someone. "I have an affinity of bumping into people." she said while rubbing her tailbone for a second time. "Oh hey, we have to stop meeting like that." said the male. Ami recognized it as the male she bumped into as she and Kyoh were trying to get to the stadium. "We do." "I'm Ethan Waber, nice to meet you." Ami put her hand out. "Ami Satomora, nice to meet you as well" Ethan looked over at the group. "Who is that guy anyway?" Ami shrugged. "I don't know. Nor do I care."

It was the next day, Ami met in the classroom she was assigned to. "Yo." said Kyoh. Ami felt a little at ease seeing that she was going to be in the same training class as he. "Hey." she said, taking a seat in front of him. Ethan then came running into the room. "Oh I'm not late." he said. Ami felt even more at ease. "Hey Ethan." she said. He took a seat beside Kyoh. "We're all in the same training class, that's good." he commented. "Is this seat taken?" asked a male. Ami wasn't paying attention to who it was. "No, go ahead and take it." she said. She turned around and froze. 'Ah dammit.'
Kyoh and Ethan took notice to Ami's facial expression. "Do those two get along or something?" asked Ethan. Kyoh whispered back, "I don't even think she knows him." "Thanks." said the male. "No problem." Ami said nonchlantly. The male looked around. "So many joining Mobile Defense. Oh, I'm Hyuga Ryght by the way." "Ami Satomora." she said back, a little harsh than normal. "I'm Kyoh Sage." introduced Kyoh. "And I'm Ethan Waber." Ami sighed. "So we're all going to see each other for the next three months?" said Hyuga. "Whoopie." Ami said sarcastically.
The classes themselves weren't bad. They were almost like a mix between a college and military camp put together. There was some free time before having to meet up for combat training, so Ami walked around the campus. It was nice scenery. "Satomora, oh Satomora!" shouted someone. She turned around and frowned. "Please, just call me Ami. I hate formalities with people the same age as me." she said. "Fair enough, if only you do the same." Ami nodded. "So what is it Hyuga?" He scratched the back of his silverish hair. "Am I displeasing to you?" She was taken aback. "Why would you think that?" "Well," he said, "the Holy Light has been funny in having me sit by you in all our classes and you give a strange look." Ami turned around. "I just find it displeasing that girls fawn over someone blocking half the hallway in the process." She began walking again. "I honestly don't know how that happened." Ami stopped again. "Well, make sure it doesn't happen again." "And that too." he said. Ami looked at him confused. "When you speak with Ethan and Kyoh, it's different from when you speak with me." "I can't help that really. Kyoh and I knew each other since we were kids and Ethan has that way of feeling at ease....why am I explaining this t-" Ami looked down at her watch. "Nevermind, it's almost time to go to combat training. Want to walk together?" Hyuga shrugged his shoulders. "Sure."
The walk to the area was a quiet one between them. They sat down on the grass, along with the others in their class. A male with steel blue eyes stood in front of them. "Looks like everyone's here." he said, "I'll be overseeing your combat training during your stay at the academy. Just advance notice. Start thinking of a preferred weapon for you. While everyone will learn the basics of sabers and handguns, each of you will also start working on those preferred weapons on your second month." He took out a digital clipboard and looked at the different statistics. "Today we're just going to assess what you know. I'm going to randomize the pairs so that you can get accustomed to not expecting an easy fight."
For the next couple of hours, each person was paired up to do a quick spar. Soon it was Ami's turn. "Good luck." whsipered Kyoh. He had just finished his spar with Ethan, barely making it. Ami threw a glare. "Let's see Satomora and......ah Ryght."
Ami groaned at the outcome. "God damn my life." she said. She picked up the practice saber. "Fate is really liking you today." Ami looked at her sparring partner. "Oh, you're left-handed?" Ami blushed. "Yes, I am. What does that have to do with anything?" "Oh, sorry. I really don't like to spar with girls, but I rather not face a bad mark." he said. Ami sighed a bit, getting into a stance. "Just think of her as a boy." shouted Kyoh, "She acts more masculine anyway." "You're not helping Kyoh." Ami said. "Alright alright." said the instructor, "Begin."
Ami was not expecting Hyuga to be so fast. It nearly took all she had to avoid the first blow. The sabers used had a lower photon output, so that it wouldn't leave a serious injury if someone was hit. But Ami didn't want to test out how much it could hurt. So she kept avoiding attacks. She kept looking for an open window to retaliate, but as soon as she saw one, he would attack, preventing her. 'He's actually good.' Eventually, Ami got to attack to only have him deflect the saber. The next few attacks were deflected. But the last one had deflected Ami's saber out of her hand. She looked at him, surprised and a bit jealous. "That was good." said the instructor. "Both of you can sit down now." When they sat down Hyuga looked over at Ami. "I didn't hurt you did I?" Ami shook her head. "I'm fine. Just surprised."

Classes were soon over for the day and Ami was sleeping in her dorm room. Sara came in, smiling at Ami asleep. "First day is always rough." she said to herself. She went over and shook Ami. "Come on, get up. You don't want to miss dinner, don't you?" Ami slowly got up. "It's already that late?" Sara nodded her head. She stretched before getting up from the bed. "I'm pretty sure your classmates will be there too." Then Sara added, "Especially the guy I saw you walking with." Ami's face blushed. "He's just a classmate and when did you see this?" "On my way to the research center." Ami just walked off a bit.
The girls made their way to the dining hall. Ami couldn't believe how big it was. "Go find some seats and I'll bring the food." said Sara. Ami nodded. "Allergic to anything?" "No," answered Ami, "But nothing from a Koltva. I just don't like how they taste." Sara gave a smile. "Got it." Ami looked around and found a table with her classmates. "Hey! Ami!" shouted Kyoh. Ami went over to the table and sat down. "Make room for one more. My roommate is sitting with us." Kyoh placed his jacket next to him, the only available seat. "Done." Ami felt like she was right back in high school. "Today was rough." said Ethan. The four couldn't help but smile at the remark. "And it's only the first day." Sara soon came out with two plates of food. She sat next to Kyoh as she passed Ami's plate. While the other three males were eating. "So introduce me." she said. Ami pointed to each male. "That's Kyoh, Ethan and Hyuga. Guys, this is my roommate Sara." The males gave a slight wave. "So Ami, decided on what you're going to specialize in?" asked Ethan. Ami shrugged. "Not yet. There's a lot. No big blades though." Sara eyes widened at an idea. "Twin daggers. It looks like it'll fit you." Ami thought about it. "They do look elegant. It's number one on my mental note." "So." she said, "Tell me about the town you live in." "Well," Ami explained, "Kyoh and I lived there since we were born. I worked at a restaurant that my parents went to a lot." "You mean that small town about a hour from Clyez?" asked Hyuga. Ami looked over at him. "Yeah, why?" "I go to that restaurant a lot." Kyoh had an evil smirk on his face. Ami understood the look. "Oh no, you still don't?" He pulled out a picture. "Don't you do it!" "You might recognize her." Before Ami could get her hands on the picture, Ethan, Hyuga, and Sara got to see Ami in her work uniform. Which was basically a Maydi suit. "This is you?" all three asked. Ami blushed. "I hate the uniform so much, but I loved my job." Sara looked at Ami. "You cut your hair?" She sank down in her chair. Ethan couldn't believe it. Since she almost looked like a different person with a haircut. "You look pretty with long hair." Hyuga noted. Ami stood up, feeling all embarrassed now. "I'm going to bed." she said.
Ami made it back to her dorm room without having to hit someone. She stared up at the ceiling. ' "You look pretty with long hair." he said. Grah, why am I thinking of him anyway?' Ami turned over to the wall. "Well, my time here just got interesting." She closed her eyes and fell off into a sleep.
