The joys of driving in a winter weather advisory
When I started out this morning, other than scraping ice off of my car and my car not wanting to move out of its parking spot due to piles of snow, conditions were fine. I drove south an hour and a half to pick up my sister at her boyfriend's, and things were still fine. (Her boyfriend had a meeting about student teaching, so he drove her car down separately because my sister had to be down in time to pick up her new glasses, since she and her boyfriend couldn't stay the night because they both had to work tomorrow.) But as we kept going further south, conditions just got...bad. Lots of snow, the roads were covered in slush, drivers were inching along. We ended up meeting my mother at the eye doctor's place so that my mother and my sister could pick up their new glasses. Route 33 was horrid going home - I think the fastest we went was 10 mph. And I guess they let schools out, and there were lots of accidents, etc. But we got to have our Johnson family Christmas - Mom picked our grandparents up and brought them to our house, and my aunt made it okay. My dad made tasty lentil chili and cornbread (and some delicious pineapple!), and of course my grandmother brought tons of cookies as well as peppermint ice cream. We exchanged gifts and talked a lot. Then my sister and her boyfriend went to drive back. I'm staying the night. I was in the car waaaaaay too much today...
