Akira was born and raised in the Riogonkai District 53. After joining the Gotei 13 when he discovered he had a rather uniquely powerful reiatsu growing up, he soon excelled in the arts of hand to hand combat, and his Zanpaktou greatly attributed to his own personal attributes. When he was assigned to the 11th Squad he was quite happy seeing as how he loved to fight. It was his life in Riogonkai and that only carried on into his membership in the 11th Squad as he rose up the ranks until achieving his satisfactory spot as the 3rd Seat. He refused to rise up any higher however because to do so he would have to fully release his Zanpaktou to challenge his opponents, but his Zanpaktou Okami no Itegumo, was an ice-kido based katana, which he felt since it was not based on force and power, would be frowned upon. So, to hide his true powers unless alone with his enemy Akira releases his Zanpaktou under the name Okami no Itekiba, which only releases part of its power, but makes it a more physical strength and brute force weapon than its fully released form. However, his livelyhood is once of seeking out strong opponent against which he can test his strength, and increase his power beneath the noses of his superiors. As far as Kido goes, Akira is proficient in both Bakudo and Hakudo techniques, but his favorite is Hakudo #31 Shot of Red Fire.

Akira is usually very active and energetic, with a very rambunctious and violent temper. He is always looking for a fight and sometimes will instigate a fight if he's bored or in a bad mood.

Akira is also able to use Bakuto and Hakuto spells between 1 and 56 without reciting the incantation, but beyond that takes a great deal of focus and the full incantation.

~Shikai~
When partially released Akira's Zanpaktou takes form as a suit of armor, consisting of wickedly clawed silver gauntlets, a breast plate with shoulders, and leg greaves with clawed boots, all ornated with blue gems and an intricate engraving of a wolf's head in the center of the breast plate. In this form Akira's speed and agility are maximized to a point on par with the abilities of Shunpo, his attack strength is greatly enhanced, and each time his claws land a hit the injured area will begin to freeze in relation to the extent of the injury's severity. For instance a full slash to the chest would result in the opponents entire upper body becoming encased in ice, while a mere scratch on the shoulder or arm would affect little of the surface area, but freeze deeply within the tissue. Akira's Zanpaktou is perfectly suited to his personal style of close-quarters combat.

When fully released the gems adorning Akira's armor begin to glow brightly as a face-plate appears covering his face leaving only slits for his eyes, a tail which is freely controllable forms behind him and fans into an array of blades, and his reiatsu shifts immensely and surrounds him like a frozen mist, marking the full release of his powers.

~Techniques in Shikai Form~

~Dance of the Frozen Fang~
This is Akira's most basic and widely used abilty attributed to his Zanpaktou's own powers. It is basically a combination of his own prowess with hand to hand combat combined with the freezing capabilites of his Zanpaktou.

~Howling Ice Cannon~
Similar to form and appearance of a Cero blast, this is a concetrated Kido blast which freezes everything in front of Akira when fired instantaniously, including the air. This technique is the true power of Akira's Okami Itegumo.
