I heard a loud blast and a sharp pain pierced me. I clutched my stomach and stumbled back until I was up against the wall. I wanted to scream, but no sound came. My strength seemed to be draining out of me like the warm liquid oozing through my fingers. My hands shook and it took all the strength I had left to keep from falling over.
"No," one of the boys around me whispered, "Look what you did Tony!" "I...I didn't mean to!" the younger one said, "It was an accident! I just-"
Sirens sounded in the distance. I had no clue what they were talking about. All I knew was that the pain seemed to be growing more intense and that I was getting weaker and weaker.
"Get out of here Tony," the older boy said, "Go now." "But I-" "Run!"
My vision was bluring but I could make out the shorter of the two boys take off. The other one did the same but headed in the opposite direction.
I slid to the ground in a sitting position. Lights started flasing and people started walking toward me. Everything seemed to be in slow motion. It felt like I was in a dream where nothing was real.....nothing but the pain that is. I suddenly felt very tired and decided to close my eyes and take a rest. People came up to me and started talking to me. I didn't register what they were saying and I didnt want to. Leave me alone, I wanted to say, let me sleep. But my voice wouldn't come. Finally I gave up trying to communicate with them and simply closed my eyes. Slowly and gradually the pain began to dull. As it did, all I could think about was my life before. I remebered everything that happened in my life. From when I was a child to what had just happened a few moments ago. That's when I realized what was actually going on.
I had been shot....and I was dying.
