Tales VLARP: Key / Awesome moments |

((Background: me and my friends recently went to a LARP that was tales-based. LARP is short for Live Action Role Play; it's like normal Role-playing, except you act it out.
These were some of the key important moments in the story for me (Yuri) and my friends (Karol and Flynn). Yes, everything written here we actually did. Epic chases, sword fights; everything. When we fought, we actually fought, having to get through the other's defences and landing a hit to deal damage. Only difference was that we never got actually hurt; that we act act out.
It was epic. Sorry if this seems a bit broken etc, but the overall story of this was not important; it was the singular awesome moments that made it amazing.))
---
Yuri opened his eyes.
He ground beneath him was soft. He was sitting on the ground which was matted thickly with pine needles, his back against the tree. Yuri carefully got to his feet, grabbing Second Star, his sword, and slinging his pack over a shoulder. He looked around, confused.
The last thing he remembered was walking through Zaphias.
"Repede!?" He yelled out, not seeing his friend beside him. He called out the dog's name again, but no answer. It seems that however he got here, Repede did not come with him.
Bag over his shoulder, he started out in a random direction. If he could get to a high point, maybe he can find a nearby town and figure out where he is.
A scream sounded in the distance, that of a young girl. He turned in that direction instantly, seeing two figures in the trees- one in bright red and the other in a blue and white outfit. Yuri caught only traces of their conversation before they noticed him.
"...Kratos, there's someone here." The one in red [Lloyd] told the other.
"If you don't mind me asking, where is this place?" Yuri asked them, walking towards them boldly. The two backed off cautiously, hands shooting to their weapons.
"No. We were taken from where we were and just found ourselves here." The man in blue -who is apparently named Kratos- answered.
"Same here." Yuri looked around, still trying to pin the source of the earlier scream. "Well, later then."
Yuri took only a few steps into the woods before a figure in a long black coat emerged from the brush, pointing an odd weapon at him [Ricardo].
"Stop right there. What's with all the people around here?" He asked. Yuri stopped in his tracks, not sure of what the weapon the man was holding, but not willing to test it at the moment. "Do you know where we are?"
Yuri shrugged.
"No clue."
The man shoved his weapon back into its sheath, grumbling to himself. When the two people Yuri had met earlier came up behind him, the man took out his weapons again, pointing them at Kratos and the one in red.
Yuri took this opportunity to slip away as they began a similar conversation as before. He had caught sight of unnatural colours in the distance behind the trees. He left to investigate, keeping his footsteps light and silent.
"Karol?" He whispered to himself as he spotted a bit of green and red, before it was obscured by someone else. He continued forward to find a large group of people talking.
"Karol!...Flynn!?" Yuri cried out, waving his hand to catch the attention of the leader of Brave Vesperia and the Commandant he just spotted. They were here too! he rushed to their side, seeing that they looked as confused as he was.
---
Yuri looked to Flynn, who nodded. Before them stood the man who called himself "The Questmaster". He seemed to know much about the world and their current situation, but would not indulge his information; except that of which was on a deck of cards he carried, which he only exchanged for currency.
"How much for a card?" Flynn asked, as the Questmaster was sorting through his deck, ready to give one out to a man named Guy. Yuri eyed the cards carefully, wondering how hard it would be to simply snatch the cards from his hands.
"Two silver."
With a nod, Flynn took our two silver pieces from his coin pouch and handed it to the Questmaster.
"Should I choose, or should it be random?"
"Random! It's more interesting this way!" Someone from the back called, the one Yuri met earlier in red. The Questmaster took a card and handed it to him. Yuri snatched it and retreated with Flynn and Karol to read what it said:
The Sacred Image is completed by the "Master of Fonons" or "The Angel"
The three looked up, having no idea what it meant. Although "The Angel"...Yuri could have sworn he saw someone earlier with pink translucent wings sprouting from her back.
---
A scream sounded from the forest.
"What was that?" Flynn asked. Yuri was on it in a flash, running across the clearing and into the woods. Flynn and Karol were quickly behind him.
A small girl in pink -Alice was her name- ran past them, and standing there stunned was a green-haired girl carrying a giant sword [Philia]. The man with the black coat was standing there, grabbing at a wound on his arm. Upon seeing Yuri and the others, he quickly turned and fled.
"Azure Edge!" Yuri swung his sword, throwing a large blue ball of energy at the man. He crumpled under the blow, falling to the ground. Yuri blinked, staring at his Bhodi Bla-...Bhodi Blastia? But it's been a year since they had destroyed the Adephagos, his Bhodi Blastia no longer works...
"What happened?" Yuri demanded, walking over to the other girl.
"H-he...he just attacked Alice. He was asking for some sort of amulet."
"Hey Yuri, take a look at this." Flynn held up a small silver earring with a pink jewel in the centre. "This was the earring the Questmaster's Assistant told us to get wasn't it?"
Yuri shrugged, walking over and kicking the man so that he would come back into consciousness.
"Only earring on him right? It's gotta be it."
The man groaned, stirring back to consciousness.
"What did you attack Alice for?" Yuri asked, keeping his sword to the back of the man's neck. In a situation like all that they're in, fighting amongst each other does not seem wise or productive; there had to be a reason behind it.
"What's it to you?" The man mumbled. "Finish it."
"You are a Mercenary correct? You would not have done this without being paid. Who hired you?" Flynn demanded.
"Why do you care? I do not divulge the details of my jobs."
After a bit more questioning, it was obvious the man would not give them any information. Yuri slammed the hilt of his sword into the back of his head, knocking the man out.
"Um...what are we doing now?" Karol asked, looking from the mercenary up to Yuri.
"Take him to the others. They might be able to get something out of him. Flynn, are we really going to be handing the earring to the assistant?"
Flynn looked up, blinking in surprise. He had been staring at the earring.
"No, we should keep it. It might be important."
---
Yuri stared at the pole, atop of which was a silver amulet with pink gems, matching those of the earring. It was in the middle of a circle. The Questmaster sat beside it, staring off into nowhere with his usual blank expression.
"Excuse me sir, but, what is this Amulet for?" Flynn asked.
The Questmaster didn't even look up to respond.
"Nothing of consequence." He said in his usual, airy voice.
"Then, if it is of no consequence, may we take it?" Flynn asked. Yuri looked to his friend, surprised.
"It matches the earring; it may be important as well." Flynn explained to Yuri's look.
"If you would step inside the circle...yes..." The Questmaster replied. Yuri shrugged and took a step in towards the amulet. Nothing happened.
"Ah, you are not a magic user are you?" The Questmaster asked, looking up at Yuri.
"No." He replied firmly, taking the necklace from the pole and stepping back out. Flynn roughly snatched the necklace from Yuri's hands.
"I'll keep it." The knight said.
---
Yuri frowned as he read the paper offered to him by the one named Luke. In his other hand was clutched a similar paper, one titled "Tales of Vagabond". It seemed to be pieces of a story, a story of the history of this world. It was incomplete- the two pieces of paper were not even continuous.
"Who gave this to you?" Yuri asked, handing the paper back. Luke shrugged.
"The Questmaster's assistant." Guy offered.
"Us too." Yuri added, confirming it. This story had to be important; as important as any other information offered by the Questmaster or his assistant anyways. Other groups might have gotten more pieces.
He looked back in the direction they had come from, the direction where they had run into the assistant. His attention was taken by the sound of steel on steel. A battle was going on in the clearing.
"I'll go investigate." Flynn offered. Yuri shook his head.
"I'm heading back for the assistant." He explained. He was determined to either find the assistant or anyone who might have come across her and also be handed a piece of the story.
"Stay safe." Flynn told him.
"You too. C'mon Karol." Yuri gestured for Karol to follow him and headed straight into the woods, leaving Luke, Guy, and their group behind.
Not very long after he spotted red and blue behind the trees; Kratos and Lloyd, along with a few others, like the kid Alice tried to kill [Emil] and the Angel with pink wings [Colette]. Yuri walked up to them, greeting them with a wave.
"Hello there...Yuri was it?" Lloyd asked, and Yuri noted that he sounded a bit tense. Karol came up to his side then, standing just a few feet away.
"Say, have you seen the Questmater's Assistant come by?" Yuri asked, and lloyd looked genuinely confused.
"No we haven't, why?" He answered.
"It's just that-" Yuri broke off his sentence as he realized Kratos was moving around behind him but it was too late. The much stronger -unnaturally strong!- man grabbed Yuri around the neck with his arms, and stopped his struggling when he brought his blade up to his throat.
"Damn it, what is this!?" Yuri gasped.
"Lloyd, take the little one. Don't move, or your friend dies." Kratos ordered Lloyd, and then talked to Karol. Having no choice in the matter, Karol could only stand still as the one in red got his sword to Karol's back.
"We heard that you have the necklace." Kratos stated, and Yuri sighed inwardly. he knew this was going to come back and bite them.
"Well you heard wrong, we don't have it." Yuri stated calmly. "Now let me and my friend go."
Kratos brought the sword up tighter against his neck, but Yuri didn't flinch or move back. The steel drew a small bead of blood.
"Don't lie. Or perhaps it is with your friend? Where's the third in your group?" Kratos demanded.
"He's not with us anymore." Yuri grimaced as Kratos grabbed his arm, twisting it up painfully behind his back, forcing him to let go of his sword. Second star dropped to the ground, where the Angel quickly scrambled over to retrieve.
"You! Where's the amulet?" Lloyd asked Karol.
"I don't know!" The boy cried, terrified but determined not to betray his friend. Yuri subtly tested Kratos's grip on him, cursing at the man's strength. His grip was like iron...
Behind them a stick snapped and all eyes turned to see a certain knight coming through the brush. Flynn was trying to regroup with Yuri and Karol.
"Nice to see you again." Yuri quipped, earning him another painful twist of his arm from Kratos. Flynn stopped, taking in the scene before him, careful not to make any sudden moves when the lives of his friend were so literally caught on the edge of a blade.
"Don't move if you want these two alive." Kratos warned Flynn. "Colette, Emil, take him."
Flynn twitched and for the briefest of moments Yuri was sure that he would turn and run for some unexplained reason. But he stood still as Colette moved to grab him, keeping her weapon at his back, an apologetic look on her face. The one named Emil didn't seem too comfortable with this either, and Yuri noted it.
"Where is the necklace?" Kratos demanded again, this time from Flynn. The Knight shook his head.
"I don't have it."
Kratos cursed, forcing Yuri's arm up. The stubborn man would not show any signs of the pain though, defiantly keeping his expression neutral.
"We need that Amulet to get us all out! Is that not what you want?" Kratos demanded.
"Somehow, I don't think you have our best interest in mind." Yuri said sarcastically, violently jerking his arm down- or trying to. Kratos held it in place, barely flinching at the attempt to break the hold. Goddamn this guy was strong.
"I told you, I don't have it. I ran into the Mercenary and he demanded I give it to him." Flynn told Kratos.
"And you just handed it to him!?" Lloyd growled. Flynn shrugged.
"There was four of them. I do value my life." Flynn answered. Lloyd cursed and Kratos mumbled under his breath too quietly for Yuri to make out.
"Fine then. You lead us to the mercenary and help us retrieve the necklace, and we let you go." They took Flynn and Karol's swords as well, and shoved them together into a tight knit group. They set off with Kratos and Colette leading, their prisoners in the middle, with Lloyd and Emil in the back, their sword tips always at someone's back.
Yuri watched Kratos carefully, making his way slowly to drag the group down but not slowly enough to cause them to suspect anything. A plan was forming in his mind as he saw the way Emil held his sword -the boy clearly did not know how to use it properly- and the hesitance in Colette's actions; she clearly did not approve.
The group suddenly stopped and Yuri saw that Kratos was talking to someone- the Questmaster! Lloyd saw this as well, and rushed forward; wherever the Questmaster was, important things always happened.
"Emil, guard him." Lloyd told the boy, at about the same time Yuri spun around grabbing Emil's sword hand. he completed the spin behind Emil, the force and a subtle twist forcing Emil to let go of his sword, and Yuri brought it up to the boy's neck.
"Stop where you are!" Yuri yelled out, but unfortunately his move had not the desired effect. Instead of stopping for fear of their friend's life, they retaliated in kind. Kratos grabbed Flynn, and before Yuri could scream his protest blood spurted into the air and the Knight fell to the ground. Lloyd had reached for Karol, but the terrified boy bolted off into the forest so fast Lloyd didn't have time to react.
"Flynn!" Yuri screamed, ready to kill Emil then and take the others down, but a thin sword made its way around his neck. Damn it. Not again.
"Hey Senel, I got one of them!" Came a gleeful, girly voice right behind him. Damn it, it was Alice.
"Good work." Came a second voice right behind him- presumably Senel. Yuri fought against his captors, fought to kill Emil before he went himself, but Senel was on him in a flash. The sword was batted out of his hands and both his arms pinned behind him. Alice still held her sword -gods, was that a toy sword?- against his neck.
"Should I...?" Alice asked Senel innocently as Emil scrambled to get away from Yuri, back to Lloyd and Kratos, who watched on impassively.
"Let me." Alice handed Senel the sword, and in a quick motion he slashed it through Yuri's throat. Both of them let go, stepping back as Yuri fell to the ground, struggling to take breath, struggling against the coming darkness...
---
Yuri gasped as he felt warm air rush into his lungs. The warrior struggled to open his eye, dizzy, disoriented, and confused. With shaky hands he pushed himself up to his knees and coughed violently, throwing up blood that had gathered in his throat after his death.
After...his death?
Yuri tested his limbs; they were stiff, sore, and cold, but they were fine otherwise. getting to his feet, he looked around to see two figures staring at him. One was Karol, his clothing covered in bloody holes though he seemed fine, and the Questmaster who was beaming at him. Then, off to the side...
"Flynn?" The Knight was sitting on the ground, looking as confused as Yuri was. Blood splattered his blue-and-white clothing, showing up much more keenly than on Yuri's own dark clothes. Yuri took a step towards his friend, but was suddenly stopped by an invisible force.
"He can not leave!" The Questmaster said with glee. "For he is a magic user! The circle traps those of magic for the ritual!"
Yuri's eyes widened with shock, this news pushing away the questions of why he was still alive. The circle...for the ritual?
Of all the hints going around, everything made one thing clear; this world was a world of magic, and it was dying with no magic to feed it, for no one lived here anymore. The ritual was a ritual to kill three magic users, as well as "The Master of Fonons" whom they know to be Ion, or "The Angel" whom they know to be Colette. And when the magic users die, their magic infuses this world to keep it alive.
Flynn was a magic user. Within this circle that initiates the ritual.
"No! Damn it!" Yuri spun on the Questmaster angrily, barely realizing that he had drawn his sword.
"How do I get him out of here!?" He demanded. The Questermaster shook his head, grinning wickedly.
"Only another Magic User may free one from the circle."
Yuri stared at the Questmaster, seeing his trap. Everything this man had been doing so far was an attempt to capture magic users. The pendent had been inside the circle, to lure people in, and with this, other magic users must be brought close, where a simple shove can trap them...Flynn was this man's first live bait.
He couldn't just forget his friend though. Yuri turned to Flynn, who was oddly quiet. he hadn't even stood back up yet.
"Don't worry, I'll get you out." he promised, shouldering his pack and turning around. "I'll be back."
---
As the barrier wavered and weakened, Flynn stumbled forward and Yuri grabbed his arm, pulling him out. Flynn was free of the circle.
"Now, the paper?" Kratos asked, lowering his arm. He had been the one to free Flynn. With a sour look Yuri handed over the piece of paper titled "Tales of Vagabond".
"C'mon." Yuri murmured, walking away from the circle. He didn't want Flynn to stay anywhere near that thing. Flynn was oddly quiet as he followed along, and Yuri was too busy trying to figure out what was going on [OOC: Flynn had the amulet and earring all along, and he feels terrible for lying about them and getting them all killed. Unknown to anyone though, the earring had a compulsion curse on it, the reason he had been acting so strangely.]. He asked Karol the obvious question:
"What happened?"
The boy hesitated, staring down at his feet.
"Well I-...after Flynn got killed I ran for it. I came back later to find y-you dead as well Yuri." The boy's voice broke slightly; the memory must have been traumatic for him. "I...I don't know, I grabbed the both of you and I thought if I brought you two to the circle...the Questmaster sold items right? I..."
Yuri patted Karol on the shoulder, keeping him calm.
"A fight broke out in the clearing, and the Mercenary shot me several times. I went down but...this girl named Philia saw me and healed me. She helped me get you two to the Questmaster, and...I think he revived you two. Before you woke he put Flynn in the circle..."
Yuri stiffened at a particular part of Karol's retelling.
"Why did the Mercenary attack you?" He demanded. The boy shrugged.
"I really don't know."
OK, that really set Yuri off. The Mercenary has been giving the group nothing but a hard time with every meeting, but they've always been peaceful enough; if you can call it peaceful that he usually has his weapon pointed at them. But shooting Karol for no apparent reason? Ohhh, he was going down.
The sound of a fight breaking out was heard just beyond the trees to their right. Yuri looked at the others for a second, before sprinting off in that direction, Flynn and Karol fast behind him. He could hear screaming and a loud BANG!
Yuri skidded to a halt next to Philia, to see the Mercenary holding his odd weapon and Luke on the ground.
"What the hell happened h-" Yuri started to say, but was cut off by two loud BANG! from the Mercenary's weapon. Beside him Philia screamed, and he grimaced as he felt something clip his side. The projectile weapon would have entered his stomach if he hadn't dived aside in time.
The Mercenary, seeing his opponents reinforced by three more warriors, turned and ran for it.
"Oh no you don't!" Yuri scrambled to his feet, and the epic chase commenced. The mercenary weaved his way expertly through the underbrush, ducking and jumping with ease. Yuri, smaller in frame and no less skilled in such an environment, was right behind them. The two slowly began to leave the others behind; Karol just wasn't a fast runner, and Flynn...you try to be anything near "fast" when in armour in in the forest.
Yuri jumped to the side, pressing his back to the tree when the Mercenary turned with his weapon out, just in time. The bullet whistled harmlessly past the tree.
"Careful! Keep to cover!" Yuri yelled back at his friends, before spinning back around the tree and resuming the chase. This happened several times, with the man turning to shoot as often as possible and Yuri frantically trying to keep out of the way. He was hit several times, but they were only glancing blows; he was catching up.
"Azure Edge!" Yuri swung his sword, bringing forth a large blue ball of energy the moment he finally saw a clear path between him and the Mercenary, with no trees in the way. At the same moment the mercenary turned, brought up his weapon, aimed, and fired.
The two crumpled at the same time, but the Mercenary's attack was far more devastating. Gasping with pain, Yuri clutched his stomach, where his opponent's weapon had gone right through. Blood seeped from the bullet wound quickly, staining his shirt and vest. The mercenary staggered to his feet and brought his gun up again, but Yuri flung himself behind a large tree, grunting from the pain the action cost him.
He tried to land on his feet, but he stumbled, landing hard on the ground on his injured side. He gritted his teeth, trying his best to stand back up, but then his shoulder exploded in pain- the Mercenary had taken out his knife. Yuri kicked at his attacker, expression held in a determined grimace, but his opponent jumped back, yanking his dagger out. PAIN.
But further attacks did not come. Shouts and footsteps were heard all about them, as Flynn, Karol, and Luke caught up. The Mercenary retreated, holding them off with his weapon, blocking each attack desperately. Yuri reached for his sword and staggered to his feet, moving around to behind the mercenary, too occupied with his fight to notice.
Yuri stabbed his sword through the man's back, and the mercenary jerked in surprise and pain, arcing back. He doubled forward as Kratos arrived and drove his own sword through the mercenary's chest.
"Yuri!" As soon as the man crumpled, Flynn moved around to his friend's side. he grimaced at Yuri's wounds. Flynn yanked Yuri's sword out of the Mercenary's corpse and rummaged through his bag, taking out some basic first-aid supplies. Flynn worked on Yuri's shoulder and his bullet wound. behind them the rest of Luke's group caught up to him.
"Can any of you heal?" Flynn turned and asked. He had tried his own healing artes; they were too weak and did little. It has been too long since he has had his Bhodi Blastia. One of them, dressed in green, stood forward, bending down to examine the half-conscious man. He was Fon Master Ion.
"I'll do what I can." He told the Knight, and went to work.
