In ancient times, Cosmos, in her mortal death, divided her essence into four crystals: Stones of power being one of strongest fire, purest water, sharpest wind, and healing earth. These crystals were brought to a world of her creation in hopes that they would nurture and provide and keep safe the lands that she had lovingly crafted.
Instead of what she had hoped for, what ensued was a tremendous war called the Rift. Humans, Eidolons, and Monsters fought one another, each species as terrible as the next in their lust for power and control over the lands. Lives were consumed in the bloody maw of warfare and life was fraught with fear.
Eventually, four warriors banded together to end this. A White Mage, a Black Mage, a Knight, and a Thief – Their hands were stained with blood, for they fought to gain the crystals, never letting their resolve waver.
They were known as the Dusk Warriors, their personal names lost to time. When the crystals were theirs, the four warriors brought on their own sacrifice, physical or personal, to stop the never ending chaos that plagued the world.
Using the power of the Water Crystal and his life’s energy, the White Mage casted Holy to envelope the world in light and ended the constant darkness in the sky. This made it so that corrupted creatures of death could not stir during the day. By the end of the spell, he gradually vanished until all that was left of his body turned into sea foam and drifted away. People say the place he died is where Ineyz lays in ruins to this day.
Using the power of the Fire Crystal, the Black Mage casted Flare to destroy the horrible weapons and war machines along with the knowledge to use them, essentially fighting fire with fire. Technological progress, good and bad, was consumed in a blazing fire that could not be extinguished. She ended destruction by employing use of it and when it was done, her body crumbled into ashes. It is rumored that the place where she casted the spell is where Giott now stands.
With the power of the Earth Crystal, the Knight healed the war-torn land and rose to become a great king who forged alliances. Within less than a year after he was crowned, he was assassinated by an envious kingdom that had refused to join his lands. The bonds he worked so hard to create eventually dissolved over time. History claims that he was cut in two- His upper half buried in Denolian soil and his lower half entombed within Sinforian catacombs.
The last of the Dusk Warriors, the Wind Crystal carrier and the mute thief who was given the other crystals after they were used for mankind, hid all of the Crystal in remote and deeply guarded places so that they would not be abused or fought over. Cosmos, though mortally dead, reached out and employed divine power to create guardians for the stones of power that would always stay where the crystals were hidden. The thief knew that the knowledge of the crystal locations was a dangerous thing to hold. She used her dagger to join her companions in death. Wherever her body may be, her spirit is as free as the wind.
