Salathielly's Commonplace Log
Fai and Kurogane
I'm rereading Tsubasa. Again. (Fifth time, I believe?) I think I kind of have my head wrapped around the various mind screws of the story (though honestly, if there are plot holes in the twisted, convoluted time/space/generation mass that is the ending of that series, I am not intelligent enough to spot them, just being thrilled that I have managed to figure out basically what was going on), but for me, the main appeal of the series lies in the parallel yet contrasting co-development of the characters of Fai and Kurogane. I also adore Mokona, and I admit to being fond of the children (their romance is rather sweet, even if it is pretty much their sole characterization...plus they also play a roll in how Fai and Kurogane grow and change), but watching Fai and Kurogane interact and change because of their interactions with each other (and, as I noted, with others, but mainly with each other), is...very, very fascinating. And, in my mind, rather well executed. Analysis isn't my strong point, nor is criticism, so other minds I'm sure will find lots of things wrong with this series. Co-developing opposing characters is certainly nothing new in literature, but I can't recall ever seeing it done so well. Or being so intrigued by it. Part of it might be my love of both of their characters, but... I may have spent more time thinking through this series than any other.
