I continued my CLAMP spree until the library's lack of certain volumes interrupted it. I have now read through Tokyo Babylon, which I had once decided that I would never read due to its being rather depressing. The morals are a little heavy-handed at times, and it's pretty easy to see that, oh hey, Seishiro is kinda evil from early on, but still. Poor Subaru. It sucks to be him. It sucks to be a CLAMP character in general, really. A surprising amount of them lose eyes/eyesight. And to continue my depressing CLAMP works spree, I continued on into X (or X/1999). This sadly was printed reversed, which makes me sad, but it didn't bother me as much as it should have...probably because I was too busy squeeing over meeting familiar characters. X was one of the first anime series I watched in its entirety, and I had forgotten how much I had loved some of the characters. Oh CLAMP. Why must you make me love your characters? I just know that you are going to find particularly angsty ways to torture them. Sorata is still awesome, just so everyone knows. As is Arashi. And...well...pretty much everyone. Although I was only able to get to volume 6. The library left me hanging for almost a month before informing me that, oh hey, our system can't find volumes 7-9. So I reserved them at the other library today, and I hope they come in soon.
I did have to laugh when I saw that Hinoto's bodyguards were named Sohi and Hien. Hey, Kurogane and Syaoran's swords. Oh CLAMP and your weird recycling of characters and names and concepts. I love it.
To fill the void, I moved onto Angelic Layer, as all five volumes had come in. I didn't expect to like a series about a young girl involved in a robot fighting game, but...CLAMP kinda made it work. Also, ICCHAN WAS AWESOME. I'm kind of tempted to watch the anime of this series, actually.
I'm still waiting on several volumes of RG Veda to come in as well as volume 2 of Suki, but since volume 1 of CLAMP School Detectives came in, I can finally read that series. I'm going to start with Man of Many Faces, but unfortunately volume 2 seems to be lost in all of the library systems at my disposal, which is tragic.
I'm also in the middle of reading Diana Wynne Jones's The Dark Lord of Derkholm, which is entertaining so far. And it has gryphons griffins.
