As a precaution for his own safety and to help control his powers upon becoming a reaper from being a demon, Fear's original soul was split in half. From one half of the original split, Fear split his soul into 8 pieces and sealed them within himself. When Fear dies and his active soul is destroyed or taken, the next soul is then unsealed and Fear is reborn, only instead of being weaker Fear becomes stronger with each soul that is lost. Fear's 8th and final piece of the original soul half that created the 8 is his most powerful soul in the series, this soul allows him full use of his Demonic and Reaper powers. When the last soul in the series is destroyed, Fear the Reaper of the Nexus will vanish and the Reaper will have finally been slain.

The other half of the original soul was split into two pieces and contains Fear's Pure Soul, this is Fear's true soul without any Reaper influence to it, this soul is Demonic but is not purely demonic as the fact that the Pure Soul consists of Fear's better qualities and his "humanity". The two Pure Soul halves were hidden away in plain view but are protected by Fear's dearest loves. When Fear the Reaper is destroyed, Fear's Pure Soul will awaken and Fear will return one last time but not as a Reaper, instead Fear will return as an ascended demon. Fear will no longer be a Reaper, and with his mortality he will simply fade into the pages of history, happy and at peace to write the rest of his story until his final moments when he greets death's embrace as that of an old comrade and friend, passing into his eternal sleep.
