Walking down the dark alleys of Downtown, Leon was on his way home from his job, working as a network engineer. Usually he would be doing his job at home but they wanted him to do some technical training as well as some tech work for some of the computers that were getting old. He stops by his favorite coffee shop to get something to drink before heading home and sleeping the day away, but as he is sipping his coffee he sees on the paper that a mermaid has been found and captured and has been put up o display for a few days before being carted off for medical and scientific studies. He had heard of mermaids before and had even been supposedly saved by one when he was a boy, but this was a chance he could not pass up.

He looked to the owner of the store and asked "Hey Brian, heard anything about a mermaid?" Brian looked up and said "Yeah sure, just down the street they have her in the public aquarium. A little weird though putting her on display. Supposedly scientists are already done probing the poor girl. I went up there last week and put my hand to the glass. I gave her a cupcake from the store, the keeper dropped it into the water. she seemed to be happy about it. Why you a-....oh, I know you like mermaids Leon but I dont think she is very happy in there, nor do i think she would be the one that sav-" Leon sighed and interrupted with "Yeah, I know, but I just have to ask ya know.... The mermaid who saved me couldnt have been older than I was back then...its just a thought, I want to say thanks"

Brian sighed and said "Sure, why not, bring her a cupcake, and no thats not a sale offer, you come in all the time, heres two. Oh, and she is in the park near 23rd... She may be asleep, I know the guard is away sometimes at night, maybe you can have a one on one talk if she wants to surface for you"

Leon took the directions and the two cupcakes, eating his on the way there and sighing as he saw the bus he usually got on pass....it was the last one out of town. Oh well, he could always see if Brian wanted to let him borrow the couch like he had when he had to stay out for repainting. He lived near the ocean in a beach house, just something that was cheap that he had done a lot of work on. He was only 21 but with his type of job, he made money early in life making apps for phones and developing websites.

He walked down the alleys once more, sighing to himself as he walked up to 23rd, taking a right and walking down the sidewalk and crossing into the park. smiling as he went up to the enclosed lake she was being kept in. he sat by the shore, daring not to stick his hand in, for he knew that there was probably an electric invisible fence, instead he tossed in a cupcake, seeing if she was awake or not. he hoped she was, and was able to speak
