Sarah Everetts

"One more day standing about, what is it for?"

Sarah nodded. She opened the sack up again and examined the contents. Cor, it would be nice to have lovely trinkets like this. She pulled out a gold necklace, calculating the price it would fetch. Nodding again, she slipped into a pocket on the inside of her jacket. No street urchin worth the dust on their feet would ever put something in a pants pocket. It would be bleeding asking some other nipper to rob you. "Mary, you're with us." Sarah said, motioning to one of the younger girls to join them. Too large a group would attract the suspicion of the police, but a small girl was practically immunity. Mary was really about 12, but starvation and harsh life gave her the look of a nine year old. "Where's this 'ouse at that's got you jumping out of yer drawers, then, eh? We'll drop by it for a looks-about before we pawn off this little pretty." She took Mary's hand. "'Ere. Now we look like a right proper family, all respectable-like." This was a laughable statement, as the three looked just like what they were: a collection of bedraggled street urchins who would rob you before you could blink.
"One day nearer to dying."
