Monday: Called around to learn more about mutual funds before I went to work. At work there was...excitement. We're doing a big move in the non-fiction section, trying to remove an entire shelving unit to open up the space, so per my supervisor, I helpfully moved books. Only trouble is, the person kind of coordinating the move came in later and got very angry that it wasn't how she had wanted it at all (thankfully not at me, but still...drama). A room renter showed up at the last minute wanting a room for this Sunday. Our maintenance guy was out sick. Two of my other coworkers called off. Water was leaking into one of our exit signs, making it spark. Excitement.
Tuesday: I had to come in early to set up for the consortium meeting of all the library directors in the consortium (I went out grocery shopping the night before to get breakfast foods). After their meeting, I gave them a tour. That evening was the lady who failed the Internet: at first she thought that the e-mail we had created another time she was here so that she could create a Facebook account was only good in relation to Facebook and that she had to create another account to have an actual e-mail. Then she was trying to log in to a website to schedule a car repair and thought that using her e-mail log in and password would get her into anything on the Internet... So I tried to help her while helping other people with reference questions/computer questions/tax questions/people needing to fax something/people wanting to reserve a room with us.
Wednesday: Just a long day. I now have to scan everything that has to go to the offsite accountant. I'm also the volunteer coordinator, and there has been, as usual, volunteer drama. The development manager is doing a mailing, and after the drama last week of getting cream colored paper and envelopes that match and mail merging and printing the letters and labels, I'm now trying to combine the mailing. Compiled statistics for the program part of the state library report. One of our patrons who owes lots of fines came in at the last minute as we were closing to pay a bit of money on hers and her daughter's accounts...and then wanted a list printed of everything they still owed. I worked on acting class registrations.
Thursday: Sorted the mail (something I do every day). Showed more rooms to people looking for a place for a wedding. Printed the staff schedule and the weekly room reservation schedule. I finally was able to get the correct label tape for our ancient label printer, and it actually works (I also order the office supplies). Did all the bins and bags that came in from other libraries/processed holds/etc. Sent out an e-blast and a press release. Wrote a letter for our children's librarian to give to incoming kindergartners. Called 911 when our theater director fell off the stage at play practice and injured his back...yikes. The latter was rather terrifying. I have since found out he (thankfully?) only has a broken rib. Still terrifying.
