The Nous & Others
x
x

Discussing the Nous is difficult, so much so that understanding why may also be a task.Outside of simple fiction, the aeons are the gnostic method of dissecting the concept of God; regressing through them, one acheives 'gnosis', or meeting God. It is, overall, a diagram that urges for the acheivement of superior knowledge--by then considered essential to the formula of salvation.

Regardless of it being true or not, Gnosticism appeals to a basic curiosity that should be taken seriously: If there's to be a God, what enables his existence? While these may number up to any sort, the Valentinian System proposes a series of emanations based on the emergence of consciousness in the human mind.

Initially, they reason, there's simply a vastness of a single thing. We call this Singleness, Sameness, Otherness, Void, Abyss, One, Monad. Relying on that premise, what exists as a vastness is the possibility of being something else than what it originally was. This can be anything, but at its most basic level it refers to Multiplicity--more simply put, One becomes Two.

The existence of these Two sets the prototype of logic systems with Vectors and Noumenons. By Noumenons, we refer to a state in which things are not bound to formal logic norms--such as reason or paradox appliance. It is a state before 'being' subject to Logic. Once said thing establishes a connection or communicates outside of itself, it is 'performing'; this means it has produced its Vector. Vectors are the primal points. The Monad extending from itself is a Vector, for example; it can be also understood as The Primal Noumenon or The Primal Vector.

By forming various vectoral connections, a system of duplication takes place that morphs into more sophisticated states. The most comfortable analogy is with binary codes and programming languages or with the aesthetic of technology; a system of complex sets translate into a condensed piece of information that--together with others of its kind--creates a powerful resource. This affects the technology that houses these new morphologies. The challenge,in the ergonomic sense, is to make things more compact. Overall, duplications evolve into a densely knit network of information that can be summed by languages which later turn into even more compact languages; that is the birth of Logos.

Comparing the Syzegies Nous & Alethea with Logos & Zoe, it is easier to visualize the initial process of emanation. The Nous exists as that continuum of Noumenons and Vectors, whilst The Alethea acts as the confirmation of their being; the Truth. The Truth is the Determining Prime, the Primal Reference. It is from which whatever else is decided. More concretely, this refers to our decision process based on what we know; when we refer, we provide the refered thing with a stand alone space--a noumenic state--that stands for our knowledge. This produces a later binary--the dominion of Logos--known more simply as word and reference. The noumenons layer with each other through vectoral bonds that then become referential and protological. By stacking these further, we emulate a complicated vastness that resembles the Sameness of the Monad. It is a vastness that becomes aware of itself; suppose a supernal process of reflection/duplication similar to the Monad. With the words, symbols, numbers and runes of Logos, we've nurtured Zoe.

Logos & Zoe represent our most archaic notion of a Genesis; with the word came light or life (although those are typically interchangable in this context.) Returning to our mental diagram, words evoke the images in our head--logical connectors such as "and, or, but, because" and the like not withstanding. Being the most basic creative process, it is deemed as the primal point of Life.

Perhaps it's because the earliest expression of language commanded life what results in this binary--both towards whom receives the word as well as whom speaks it. It's a dual vector in that sense, noting that the source of the word is alive as well as its receiving end. It's important to keep in mind, however, that we're currently referring to a state of being in which words are regarded as the primal matter--the initial carapace for thought. Were we to consider such a process, we'd understand the role of the Aeons mentioned before.

Final Notes

Let it be known that the topic of Aeons is obnoxiously large, so most of my writings will deal with the Aeons that concern my main characters; Nous (Noah), Alethea (Claire), Logos (Xaphriel) and Zoe (Eve). Primarily, I've written and will continue to write about the Nous for the sake of building Noah as thoroughly as I can for enjoyment's sake. What you can take from this topic is some background for Noah's ability to make and alter things. As a realized Aeon but more specifically the Nous, Noah can produce noumenal states upon realms that are already saturated with layers of other kinds--such as matter, auras, spiritual energies and the like. On the other hand, he's also capable of creating vectors from these noumenal states or communicating with already existing vectors. In layering them, he can mock the natural process of the Aeon hierarchy and create a personal version that responds to him--much like a cosmic-divine computing mechanism, observing and altering his being as an interface or things outside of him. This interface-mechanism is called Ark.

In short--and perhaps in a more cartoon-esque tone-- Noah alters or creates his surroundings in a pre-logic state; the binary code part of the earlier analogy. You are free to imagine the extension of what this implies, as long as that also includes the difficulties that lash upon his person.

As a future note, I will eventually write about the dozen other Aeons as a means to flesh out a possible lore for publishing.
