Wow. This morning, I woke up and got dressed; I wore the normal (for me) blue jeans and black hoodie, and black-and-white-checkered vans. I combed through my somewhat freakishly long hair, and gathered my books, waiting for the bus to arrive and spirit me away to school. It's Friday, I think, and I have Psychology and Girl's Weights, my two favourite classes. It can't get better than this. Suddenly, out of the corner of my eye, my '07 tassel catches my attention. I've had it for a week and a half, but I've never really taken any interest in it. Today, however, I did. It...scared me. Seemed to taunt me. You are a senior. These are your last steps out of childhood, and your first steps into adulthood. This is your chance to put to the test all of those things you think you may believe about yourself But, I respond, what if I'm not sure about what I believe myself to be? What if I still need guidance? Then there is nothing you can do, except take a deep breath and plunge into the cold depths of an unforgiving ocean of realization.
I sat there, pondering this for the longest time; at least, it seemed that way. It was only a few moments later that the bus did arrive, and I greeted my peers with a strong smile of reassurance. Because I know who I am, and what I believe myself to be is exactly how others see me: Confident, determined, and ambitious. I will not change myself just because someone else says they don't like what they see. I do, and I'm the one that matters.
So, even though my first steps have been a little shaky, I will continue on, setting my own pace. I feel better, even though the advice did, unfortunately, come from a black tassel. sweatdrop
