Hi...
Yay tonight's the homecoming game!YES HERRIN TIGERS ARE GONNA BEAT THE HOLY CRAP OUT OF THE HARRISBURG BULLDOGS!!!!!!Ha...And then after that we're going to Chittyville school. It's "haunted".Yeah right. That is so stupid!Any idiot who believes that has major issues.Even the owners of the school told the teachers that used to work there (before it was that entertainment haunted house) that it wasn't haunted and they only made that rediculous story up to scare people during Halloween. Here's the legend of Chittyville School:

Over a century ago, in 1836, a small community, drawn by the local coal mines, began to grow in the area now known as Chittyville. Here they worked hard, raised their families, and died. The dead were buried in a cemetery somewhere along Chittyville Road .

As years went by, most of the early settlers died or moved on and the cemetery became overgrown and unused. Slowly the wooden tombstones rotted away, leaving no sign of the sleeping souls.

In October 1912, officials claimed the land to build a new school needed for the thriving community. The townspeople were thrilled at the prospects of a new school, except for one man, a local who was very old and tended to keep to himself. He warned the officials not to build the school or face dire consequences. "You should never disturb the dead," were the last words ever heard from him, as he was never seen or heard from again.

Officials ignored the old man's ominous advice and construction began. The project was soon plagued by problems. Workers reported constant unexplained events. Nine workers perished over the next ten months due to mysterious construction accidents. The entire project seemed to be cursed.

With construction complete, the school opened in August of 1913. Almost immediately, the children and teachers complained of seeing ghostly figures in the hallways and strange noises coming from the boiler room. It wasn't until October, however, that the real horror began.

On one cold October day, Mr. Haney, the school custodian, thought he heard the sound of someone crying. He went into the boiler room to investigate and never returned. Teachers and students could hear screams emanating from the boiler room, but no sign of Mr. Haney was ever found. Following the incident, each October a student or teacher would vanish without explanation from the school. Officials refused to close the building, blaming disappearances on the "Big Muddy Monster" as sightings of this creature were beginning to grow in the Chittyville area. The officials knew the truth, but they took their secret to their graves. They feared the community's reaction should they ever learn what they had done.

After the school closed in 1972, neighbors continued to report strange noises coming from the school. The new school officials leased the property to a local university who used it for offices, but employees refused to go into the school alone due to the strange sightings of ghostly figures and the constant sounds of children both laughing and screaming. So, Chittyville School sat empty for many, many years...until its current, unwitting, owners purchased the school in December of 2004.

Who will be the next to disappear...will it be you?

Frank and Vickie King purchased the old abandoned Chittyville school back in 2004 because their business was rapidly expanding and they really needed the additional office space and storage rooms. Vickie wanted to use the kitchen for her catering business and possibly convert the old gym into a reception area. Also, since the school was just a few blocks from their home, it was in an ideal location. Although the couple had heard stories from the local residents about the school sitting on a ancient abandoned cemetery, they weren’t real strong believers in the occult, so they pretty much ignored to old wives’ tales. However, shortly after moving into the building, several staff members complained of hearing strange noises. The light in the boy’s downstairs restroom would mysteriously come on. Certain parts of the building would suddenly become very cold, even in the middle of summer. Toby, the neighborhood dog, would whine at the front door, but would refuse to step inside, no matter how enticed.

That’s when Frank and Vickie decided to capitalize on the eerie events. Why not convert the old building into a commercial haunted house? They started construction, but most workers wouldn’t go in certain rooms by themselves, much less after dark. Some said they just felt “uneasy”.

It wasn’t until a group of paranormal researchers asked to conduct a paranormal investigation that the Kings felt there might be some validity to the stories. The researchers did conduct their test…….with amazing results. But they are waiting for you to find out the truth for yourself. Is Chittyville REALLY haunted???
No!

Yeah I copied that from the website,so that IS the real legend. And actually there was a town named Chittyville next to Herrin. There used to be a lot of little towns around Herrin because they predicted that the area would grow to be huge cities because of the mines. The older towns were Herrin, Chittyville, Brownsville, Hafer, Freeman Spur, and Energy. Well now there is absolutely NOTHING left of Brownsville.Hafer dwendled away, but there are still remains of its schools and older buildings.Freeman Spur is hanging on by a hair, and some people even refer to it as Herrin instead of Freeman Spur.Chittyville is still a pretty known area, but it's part of Herrin.People around that area still call it Chittyville, but trust me,it's Herrin. But don't tell them that... Well,Brownsville is COMPLETELY gone.Nothing remains.Herrin obviously prospered, but not as well as they had hoped, because the mines soon became empty.Energy is still hanging on,but Herrin has prevented it from growing.Herrin is a pretty famous town.Ever heard of Bloody Williamson?Well, that's Herrin. Here's the story of Bloody Williamson for those that don't know: Back in the 1930s,gangs were pretty popular.Ok well anyway, there was this dude named Charley Burger who would kill anyone who got in his path.Ok and back then the coalmines were the main job...And coalminers were getting underpaid,so they went on strike. The businesses that owned the coalmines got people to replace the coalminers. The coalminers weren't happy about this and took all the replacements back in the woods. They gave them 10 seconds to run. Then they started shooting. Not one coalminer survived...So what does that have to do with Charley Burger?Well I have no clue.Get the book. It's called Bloody Williamson. And for my friends that live in Herrin with me,there are bullet holes in the old part of the hospital and the Mason Lodge across from the hospital from a Charley Burger shooting.I've seen them in the Mason Lodge but me and my mom can't seem to find them on the hospital, but everyone in Herrin knows they're there.Charley Burger was also part of Bloody Williamson, but I'm not sure how.Like I said, get the book.

Yes I agree. Chittyville is not haunted. 3nodding if it was, they wouldn't have people working there. But may I make a suggestion? Earse everything you didn't copy from that one website and entering in the journal contest. It would probably win.
