Chapter Fourteen: What’s this?! Koki calls a truce?!
“Koki-“ Yuji growled at him as the memories came flooding back to him. Behind his glasses Koki noticed this. “I see that Yuji-san has finally remembered us, Mina.” Koki sneered at him. But Mina seemed to be happier by this. “Really Koki-san finally remembers me- I mean- us?!”
“Like I could forget trash like you.” He snarled at him startling Mina. “Come on, Yuji-san. Can’t you forgive us? I mean we didn’t hurt you back then. . .” She protested stepping forward
“But you did hurt Yuna. And that’s the same as hurting me!” Yuji said clenching his fists. Yuna only looked at him. Her eyes shone happily. “Yuji,”
Koki also saw this and started to walk towards them. “Now, now you two; can’t we put this all behind us? There’s no need to bring up old rivalries and bad memories of the past. After all, that was just a little childish teasing back then. And I did do it for a very good reason, Yuna-san.” He told her in a gentle tone making Yuna shiver in disgust.
“What do you mean by that?” she demanded cautiously. Koki stopped in front of her meeting her eyes. “Yuna-san, the only reason why I did such terrible things to you was because I deeply cared about you like I still do. Before the teasing began you were shy, quiet, and probably lonely after you lost your mother. But now, you’ve become bold, strong, and beautiful. And wasn’t there a saying that went like: ‘You always hurt the ones you love’?” He asked her. Yuna turned away, but she knew that some of his words were true.
“So you see, Yuna-san I didn’t tease you because I enjoyed hurting you, but it was because I was also shy and deeply cared for you. I didn’t know how to talk to you back then. So I decided if I teased you, that you might somehow start to like me. But now I realize that I was wrong. And I apologize.” Koki told her and took his hands in hers.
She seemed to have been listening to him now, but Yuji didn’t believe any of it. In fact, this made him even angrier. He pushed Koki away from her. “Stay away from her.” He growled at him. Koki sighed “It looks like Yuji-san doesn’t trust me. You must be a very grudge bearing person.” He bowed to Yuna. “I hope to see you at the planning of the festival.” With that he disappeared into the crowd.
“It’s like nothing’s changed these passed years. . .” Yuna muttered almost sadly. “What does he mean by the planning of the festival?” Koki asked trying to change the subject. “It’s only one of the biggest festivals in Meio history. Even the neighboring schools know about it.” Spoke a voice from the crowds. It turned out to be Harumi.
“Harumi, what are you doing here? I thought it was your turn to help out the art academy this time.” Yuna said. “I got done early,” she started but with Yuna’s suspicious look she sighed. “Alright, I kind of snuck out. What! I can’t be in a room for more than two hours before school to help carrying about art supplies!”
“That sounds like you Harumi.” Yuna muttered with a sigh and closed her eyes. “Anyway, what about this festival, I guess my school isn’t exactly informed.” Koki asked more curiously. “Well, every year as tradition we have a fireworks festival celebrating the blooming of the cherry blossoms.” Harumi continued.
“Every group and club helps out to add a little piece of them to the festival. It’s really fun, no ones game or foods are exactly like and you get to wear kimonos and watch the fireworks under the night sky. I heard the sky is supposed to be even clearer than last years!” Yuna added enthusiastically.
“As you can see Yuna’s favorite festival is the fireworks. Only because the teachers trust her and Subaru with the planning since they’re the top students at the academy.” Harumi whispered to him with a snicker.
“I heard that Harumi! And it’s not because I get to be in charge. I love to watch fireworks. It’s peaceful and calming to the heart and soul.” Yuna protested.
“Is that the reason or is it The Rumor?” she asked smirking. Yuna flushed and looked away. “I-I,” “What’s this rumor?” Koki asked. Harumi raised an eyebrow. “Wow Koki, people must not have liked you very much if you didn't’ know what The Rumor is.” Koki gave her a glare. “Just tell me what this Rumor is.”
“Well, it’s said to be that if a couple watches the fireworks under the sakura trees and shares a kiss during the grand finale, it means that you’ll be together forever.” Yuna said blushing. Koki put this to thought. “Hm,” he said aloud. “I-I just thought it was romantic, that’s all!” Yuna said quickly. “H-Harumi you’re making me sound like a horny teenager!”
“Well, aren’t you?” Harumi asked.
“No! I have dignity and honor!”
“Suuree, and you’re different from the rest of us Yuna?”
“I at least I can control my hormones!”
“What! What are you saying?!”
“I’m saying you should worry more about your school work than your next boyfriend. You’re not going to be able to take the college entrance exams if you don’t.”
“So you’re saying I have a one-track mind and that I’m dumb?!”
“No! Well, you have to admit you DO have a one-track mind . . . but I didn't’ mean-“
“Yuna! Harumi! Stop fighting! Calm down already-“
“YOU STAY OUT OF THIS!””QUIET!” The girls yelled at him. “So much for your dignity, little miss perfect!”
“What! I have a lot more dignity that you do miss one track mind!”
“Take that back Yuna!”
“Take back the truth? In your dreams Harumi!”
Just then the bell rang for school to begin. Koki watched in bewilderment. “Oh, we’re going to be late! And it’s your first day Yuji!”
“Go on you two! You’re going to get a whole lot of spit in your face by Takeda-sensei if you don’t hurry!” Harumi said shoving them in.
Yuna smiled at the girl she had just been fighting with moments before. “Bye Harumi! Come over sometime if you’re not too busy!” The other girl smiled back. “I’ll try, but it’s not likely Yuna!” and she disappeared from sight.
“What was that about?” Koki asked her in shock.
“What was what?” Yuna said puzzled, as if not knowing that she had been screaming at Harumi but had been having a peaceful chat with her.
“That! Just now! You and Harumi were-“
“Wow Koki, you’re a strange one. I don’t know what you’re talking about. Now let’s go before Takeda-sensei starts yelling at us. Trust me, he doesn't’ go easy on new students.” And she rushed him towards the classroom after changing their shoes.
