Once the morning chores were done, I walked out into the gray morning and down towards the river. The town of Sema was small, no more than a collection of houses and shops, Durnel’s inn, and a tavern. It happens to be located along the main highway in this part of the world with many leagues between it and any city on either end. Thus it is a frequent stop for travelers in the summer months, though at any time throughout the year it is not uncommon to see unfamiliar faces. So, even though the time for regular travelers had not yet come, I took no notice on the stranger who glanced at me from the road as I walked passed, though I did notice the beautiful chestnut stallion he sat upon. He really was a magnificient creature. At that moment, as though the stallion had heard my thoughts, he raised his head up and stood straighter, as if he were showing off, noticeably startling his rider. I hurried off on my way….
