As Deive followed down the rest of the path to the village he stoped at the side to let Vill graze. Petting her gently he said, "I guess I forgot to let you eat before we went out, huh?" With a smile he looked down to the village. He could make it if he walked, but he wouldn't leave Vill alone in the woods where hunters and wolves were. After a couple minutes she whinnied and nuzzled Deive's side gently, signaling that she was ready to go. He smiled and hopped over the saddle and taping her sides lightly, seting out on the path on an even trot.
Nearing the city in the early day was queit exciting. There were peddlers and merchants bustling about the marketplace, farmers tending to there livestock and letting them out to graze, children playing as the headed to the small school. He breathed in deeply, letting out an exuberant sigh.
"Aaaaaahhhhhhh"
"That was queit the sigh" a woman said, walking infront of him.
"Waaagh!!" Deive shouted, Vill whinnying and jumping onto her hind legs, sending Deive to the hard dirt bellow.
With a giggle the woman said, "I guess its true; those who sigh always waste away their happiness"
"Oh be quiet Nephit" Deive chuckled getting up and dusting himself off. "I can still be happy, 'Those who cannot laugh at themselves do not deserve to laugh at others'. I would expect the scholar of our town to know this.
"Heh... I see you've been reading too many old fantasys again." she said, taking off tword the school. She wore a tan jacket with a silk white shirt underneath. The jacket fell off her shoulders and didn't cover much of her front- yet fell behind her like a cape. She had black pants that seemed to merge with her boots.
Smiling Deive calmed Vill down and tied her to a standpost near the entrance. "I'll be back soon alright" he said, petting her nose. She was standing in a stable with many other horses that were tied down by the people in town. So Vill took no time to waste and began gulping down big draughts of water.
Deive went tword the marketplace, seeing Nephit walk into the school with her students. When he headed tword a small hut that contained all the farmers goods he spotted a small stand that seemed to drag attention from him. Taking a small moment to think he walked over to the stand- just to check it out.
Apon the stand lay many trinkets and jewels. Daggers outlined with gems and a small broken crown. When Deive looked at all the small nit-nacs he saw that they were all either fake or junk and started to turn off. Then, out of the corner of his eye he spoted a small necklace with a imbeded amulet. The amulet had a small dragon on it, holding a shinning marble-cut ruby that shone a different shade every second.
"Ah... Young man... You seem interested in this item?" the small woman behind the table asked, her face hidden beneath a tall fur hat, and her pointy nose sticking out tword him.
"Oh- Uhm n-no ma'm I was just looking at the things here and the necklace caught my eye..." Deive explained.
"Hmm... So would you like it?" she asked in a cackling voice.
"Oh I would- but it looks far too expensive and I am not we-"
"Three copper peices..."
"No- You must be joking! I cannot take something so beautiful for that mu-
"Think of it as... A birthday present..."
Deive was caught off gaurd. He stared wide eyed at her and jaw droped. "How... Do you know that my birthday is today?..."
She cackled, "I did not young man- but now I do!"
He sighed, seeing the trick withen her speach. "Are you sure you wish to sell me that for so low?!"
"You keep arguing and I'll just have you throw it into your boot and SAY you bought it!"
He saw that the old woman would not give up, she wanted him to have it. He reached into his pocket and pulled out his wallet, looking inside to 8 copper peices. Placing the three in her hand she droped the amulet into his hand in place of the copper.
"There you are..." she cackled, placing the copper into her sleeve as he walked away.
"Thank you ma'am!" Deive called, walking tword the hut once again. Messing with the amulet in his fingers he swung the chain necklace over his head as it fell down against his chest. The jewel shined with the sun, gleaming and adding to a sense of beauty that already existed. The day seemed even more pleasant to him now.
