((Chapter Six Spoilers for Megaman X: Command Mission! Not -huge- spoilers, but they're there.))
He had always known something was odd about this whole 'Gigantis' place.
The sight of X fervently struggling with something he could only describe as a Status Screen only proved his suspicions. X had been fiddling with some sort of secret program in his holographic two-way communication system for what seemed like the past hour, muttering things like 'That's way too much Erosion' and 'But what about pairing Super Absorber with Bait?'
He was pretty sure he didn't want to know why X was muttering these things, though he had a fairly solid idea about it.
Ever since Axl had left on his own to further investigate his Copy Chip, things around him had changed severely, and some of them not for the better. A sickening, twisting feeling accompanied the prelude to every fight he got in, and the fights themselves were much more unorthodox. It felt like he was forced into 'taking turns' with the enemy, getting off exactly two shots before the other side got in their hit and started the cycle over again. He would also experience oddly-timed, almost random increases in ability, even when he hadn't been doing anything to further himself before he had found X in the Melda Ore Plant.
It was like he was in one of those old Role-Playing Games he delved into so often, and he wasn't the main character. Then again, that wasn't much of a surprise, considering X was the center of everything of late. And he did mean everything. It was like nothing would happen unless X went to personally go do things himself, that the world revolved around him...
That X was the only one who could further the plot.
Well, that would explain the RPG feeling easily enough. It didn't mean it would make things right, but an explanation was really all he could ask for at the moment.
Of course, anyone could deliberate on Life, the Universe, and Everything with the amount of time X was taking with equipment-related nonsense. He just didn't feel like pushing the issue, even if Curiosity was begging him to. The random, untidied cleaves and crags of the rock tunnel held enough of his interest to prevent him from running off, as did the uncanny lack of complaining Spider was doing.
Spider had been mostly quiet after throwing himself dramatically in front of Zero and taking a bullet with his right arm, which was strange since Axl was quite knowledgable about how much Spider could -- and would -- whine and moan about the smallest of things with the slightest provocation. Most of it was childish petulance(this thought coming from someone intended to act sixteen his entire existance), though he also knew Spider could act his appearance when he felt like it.
It wasn't anything majorly surprising, just a little out of place, and possibly a bit refreshing if it weren't for how serious the bounty hunter looked.
"Maybe if I... Maybe Zero would work better for this."
Axl was shaken forcefully from his thoughts at X's comment, looking a little startled. "Huh?"
"Yeah..." X nodded to himself in satisfaction and tapped something else on his arm-mounted terminal.
Axl's world was nothing but white light for about twenty seconds before he was revealed to be in the Hunter Base again, standing in his usual spot a comfortable distance from Massimo(who looked completely lost, to say the least).
He should -really- give a better warning when he does that. With this thought and a disgruntled mutter in tow, Axl retired to the Hunter lobby.
Now he had time to think.
((Bleh. Weak ending. I got braindead near the end. x.x))
