Chapter Five: Meeting the Mu
"How long have I been falling now?" I asked my watch, which replied by cracking.
"Oh, great! now if I ever get back home, I'm going to have to explain about this too!" I said looking down at the broken broom in my left hand. "Wait a minute, how can I see the broom if I'm falling?" I answered myself looking upwards to discover I was in the trunk of a hollow tree. "How did get in here?"
As sun light streamed in through the top of the dead branches, I found some footholds and started climbing my way upwards. The inner trunk of the tree was wet, as though it had rained sometime the night before.
By the time I was out of the trunk and sitting on one of the branches, my hands and feet were aching. "Why does this tree have to be so high up?" I thought to myself as I looked around. "Okay, if i didn't think so before, I am definitely not in Kyoto."
The scene surrounding me was of a lush forest that appeared to be on a mountain side. Ferns and wildflowers grew abundantly around the trees . Bird calls echoed through the trees, and in the distance one could here a waterfall rushing down the mountain. The trees themselves were huge, at least 40 feet tall and had leaves the color of fresh cut grass, and smelled deeply of soil and rain. It was breath taking to say the least.
Suddenly the serenity was disturbed by a feminine voice shouting "BANKOTSU!"
The shout was quickly followed by a quieter more masculine voice saying,"If he was close enough to hear you, he would probably be with us by now."
"Shut up Mukotsu"
"Just pointing out the obvious, Jakotsu"
I quickly leand down over the branch eager to hear what was about to be said when something pushed me off the branch and sent me flying towards the voices.
*boom*
Moments latter i recovered from my fall to find i had landed on a short human with bulging eyes dressed in white.
"Sumimasen!" I cried jumping off of the man.
"Well what do we have here?"
I spun around to face the owner of the feminine voice. He had long hair and was dressed in a green kimono and had a sword on his back. His face had two parellel green streaks starting under his eyes. "Wait he? don't I mean she? I don't know!" I asked myself looking at the it sitting on a rock.
"Jakotsu, help me up!" yelled the man, who was still on the ground. The it know as Jakotsu didn't pay any attention to him.
"Um sorry I didn't mean to fall like that...I'd better be going now." All I wanted to do was get out of there and figure out where I was.
"Wait just a minute" the voice called and I froze.
"yes?" I answered holding my breath as the one known as Jakotsu came towards me.
"YOU HAVE CAT EARS! THAT'S SO COOL!" yelled Jakotsu as he pulled my ears.
All I could answer back was "Oww..."
"Ugh, Jakotsu.." Sighed the short man that had now risen to his feet.
"But they're so cute, Mukotsu!" Jakotsu replied now rubbing my ears.
"Can you stop now?" I asked, pulling away from Jakotsu.
"Aww" Jakotsu replied noticing the absence of the cat ears in his hand.
"Come on Jakotsu!" Mukotsu called as he picked up his box and started walking away.
"Fine" Jakotsu answered with a small wave to me.
"W-Wait.. Where are you going? " A asked hurriedly, suddenly realizing that I would probably not find anyone else for miles.
"To find Bankotsu." Answered the rapidly disappearing back of Jakotsu.
"Can I come?" I asked hoping that he would say yes.
"N-" "Sure why not!"Jakotsu replied, interrupting Mukotsu, and turning around with a huge smile on his face.
"Thanks... I'm Kiri by the way. " I told Jakotsu, as I ran up to him.
