Beware of the fangirl...The diary of a Gaian.
This is the diary of Dawna Celeste, just another ordinary Gaian...or is she?
Cars mean trouble!
Well, it turned out to be a dumb idea to run off to Durem. By the time Cindy showed up, I knew it was, so I listened to the gentle lecture she gave me, the equally mild apology she gave for leaving the house a mess, and, since I really did think I'd freeze to death if I stayed in the guttted building any longer, accepted her invitation to come back home with her. I havn't felt this foolish since I went on that trip to the Cliffs with Yama...explaining why I havn't written in so long.
Well, I got the book from the Barton library, and it is very intresting. I don't see why Lady Luck was leading me to it though, it dosn't have anything about the Golden One or anything. It's just what the title says, heroic legends about the old gods ahd heros of Gaia.
I didn't go the the Anniversery Ball, I wasn't going to run the risk of running into Gambino. Cindy was there, of course, and she brought me back a Roman Candle from it. I decided to do a little splurge and got a pair of heart earings (clip-ons, of course!) a matching necklace, and, inspired by something I read in "Heroic Legends", a ruby forehead jewel. It felt rather weird sticking it to my forehead at first, but I love the look of mystery, and so does Cindy. Not to mention, it suits my eyes!
But that's not why I'm writing. I wouldn't be writing, if it wasn't for...
I got up quite early this morning, hoping to have a slightly leisurely breakfast with Cindy bfore she went to work. She was already sitting at the kitchen table when I got downstairs, looking at her cell phone, which was sitting in the middle of the table, and ignoring the coffee and pastry in front of her.
"Morning!" I said cheerily.
"Morning," she said gloomily. "I won't say good morning, because it's not a good morning."
"What's up?" I asked. "No, let me guess... The Sniper? The Zurg? The Gambinos?"
"None," she said, tucking her cell phone into her jacket pocket. "Another of the infamous GAIA 9 car crashes."
I sighed. "Not again... I assume the driver was missing again?"
"Yep, what did you expect?" She downed the coffee in two gulps and pushed the pastry toward me. "You eat it... Remember whose car got stolen at Xmas?"
I thought back for a moment. "No way! Not your car!"
"Yeah..." She got up. "I'd better get into town..."
"You're not going to get in trouble, are you?" I asked worriedly. "The car was reported as stolen, right?"
"I'm afraid not," she said disgustedly. "I left the station to do it, and of course, they forgot...and guess who's going to have to explain to the police?"
I was feeling rather sick. "You're...you're not going to be arrested or anything, are you?" I asked.
"I wouldn't count that possibility out. The police are getting pretty fed up with not finding anyone for these crashes..." Seeing the look on my face, she said, "Don't worry, you'll know if it happens. They'll have to let me have one phone call...and you do have that cell phone Mike gave you, don't you?"
I nodded. "When did this crash happen?"
"Midnight last night, so you're not a very good alibi, because all you can tell is that we washed the dishes, watched TV, and went to bed at 11. I could have slipped out of the house and..." She grinned bitterly.
"I could say we ran into each other in the bathroom just after midnight..." I was cut off by Cindy's sarcastic snort.
"And lie in court?" she asked sourly. "You'd get us both in hot water...anyway, both you and Mike know for sure that my car was stolen months ago. So do quite a lot of other people at the station, so it should work out ok."
"Do you want me to come with you?" I asked.
"It would just make matters worse," she said, shaking her head. "I'll be fine...if I can keep Mike away, that is."
"And Leon," I pointed out.
"I can handle him!" She laughed, kissed me on the cheek, and hurried out.
Needless to say, I'm worried almost out of my mind. I never knew looking at a frozen swiming pool could be so depressing...
