VA Tech and The World Today
As most, if not all of you know, yesterday morning a great crisis ensued at Virginia Tech Institute leaving thirty three dead-including the gunman-and fifteen injured. First of all I would like to send out my condolences to the friends and families of the deceased as a result of the massacre. Earlier today new information including the identity and persona of the murderer was released. Cho Seung-Hui, the twenty-three year old student killed twenty-two people yesterday..students and several professors. Classmates of Seung-Hui say that he was a loner..that he had no friends, nor the intent to make any. Even his roommates knew little about him escept that he seemed to enjoy stalking girls and could care less if he died. It is also stated that he had written several plays, each with the basic theme of a troubled student whom sought revenge against those who had"ostrasized" and "oppressed" him. Many offered to get him counciling but he refused consistently and could not be forced to seek help-many thought he was taking medication for depression and note that he was "becoming increasingly violent." Hate letters were found in his room as well as notes to classmates and teachers that stated "You made me do this," and something along the lines of "I would rather be dead because living my life has been nothing but hell." The above is a basic summary of the news reports that have been aired around the country for the past eight hours since I have entered my house, and quite frankly, I am shocked..Why is it that the world is in such turmoil? I pose questions, seek answers and find nothing. All I have to ask is why? And when the day comes that that question can be answered, I would like to be there to witness it. Radicals would undoubtedly start spouting something like "It's God's way of balancing the world," or "Satan is going to be revived and he's sending recruits to eliminate non-believers." Yes, people have said things like that to me...specifically about killings and other incidents, but the masses are undoubtedly thinking the same as I...
