Tales of the Abyss
The most awesomest game EVAH!
I was under the impression that it was a Gamecube game, not a PS2 game. Oh, well, I have both consoles anyway. Though it is rather strange playing a Tales game on a PS2... I'm used to playing Tales of Symphonia on the gamecube.
A few months ago I had started surfing the net for ToS info, I didn't even know there was a Tales series out there similar to the Final Fantasy series. At first I almost wanted to cry when I found that out, so many missed opportunites... Then when searching for a Tales title that had come out recently (to see if I would still be able to purchase it) I discovered that a new Tales game was coming out! I of course saved my money for the release date, October 10, 2006. Of course Wal-Mart didn't have it in right away ("If its out, we have it in" MY a**!) I had to wait 5 more days to purchase it. At first I missed it 'cause I was looking in the Gamecube section. When I was leaving an... aquatiance of mine who works there (he's more of a guy that forces his way into conversations and makes himself and aquatiance.) told me that it was avaliable in the PS2 section. I immediately bought it.
As soon as I got home I began to play it, and ending up doing so for 11 hours straight. I got to say, it really is an awesome game. Definately better then ToS, but only because ToS was a cheap knock off of FFX for the first 20 hours of game play ninja TotA also has more FMVs!
I have a habit of always having the main character my favorite character, so of course Luke was my fave.. even in the beginning of the game when he was a d**k, rude, offensive, lazy, spoiled, snarky, sniveling... the list goes on. He was a VERY sheltered person and nobility so he lived a sheltered, pampered life (as in he has never left his manor in 7 years, and the 10 years prior to those 7 years he has amnesia and can't remember anything.) Yeah... anyway he gets better and his personality practically does a 360 after a life altering event in the game. Another character I absolutely adore is Jade. He's so... sarcastic and evil (in a good, funny way), but he's always calm and smiling, even when insulting people, so you never know what he's thinking. He's smart and always has plenty of cutting remarks to go around, the fact that he's way older then all the other characters (35 years old) and often uses his age as an excuse not to do stuff since the younger characters originally kept calling him 'old man' is hilarious. There is another character name Guy who has a phobia of women, quite funny too. Dist is a villan you never really end up fighting but he has hilarious personality quirks (obsessed with beauty and loves to talk, but no one ever listens xd )
There is a whole "chosen one" element to the story, but it is only mentioned a few times and does not (or yet, I haven't quite beaten the game yet) play a major role at all in the first 40 hours of game play at all, plus there's a little twist in there too. The story is good, voice acting great, and battle system thuroughly enjoyable. You should definately buy it (though you'll think the main character is a total d**k for the first 10-20 hours of the game!)
Definately addicting, played it 11 hours straight Saturday, 19 hours straight Sunday and 10 hours straight Monday. I only played 1 hour Tuesday and I haven't played at all today seeing how it was totally distracting me from school and I was staying up way too late >.> I'm going to start playing for longer periods of time once the long weekend is here (which is tomorrow >.> wink
Anyway, toodles!
