(Blame my college professor.)

Happiness can't be recognized without pain to shadow it, but does it still exist without pain? Does joy mean anything without suffering? Does this world and all it's trouble give us three dimensions?

How will this figure into Heaven? I always thought that since boredom is an evil, tedium would not be allowed in an entirely good place...but where is the meaning? Where is the fuel for passion and poetry if there is no danger and no suffering?

The obvious answer is we'll carry our scars with us there, but that implies we needed our stories for meaning all along. Adam and Eve needed to fall. How can I believe that was planned? Or rather...I just don't. There doesn't seem to be a set-up there; Jesus said the father would not give the son a stone, so I can't believe the Father would give us a snake.

Maybe there isn't a recognizable answer. I am a creature underneath the veil, I can't yet see. Maybe there are laws above us that would've let us be three dimensional without the pain. We took the hard way.

Because it does have to come by some sort of law. Meaning comes from symbols, symbols come from line, and lines form the boundaries to who we are. To be a chaotic entity, completely free of everything, would be to commit ourselves to a void.

What binds us empowers us, then. Because without those bindings, we would not have freedom to/be forced to act. There is a duality to everything, and in this reality of shadow and dark, the middle road lends itself least to destruction.

But out peaks and valleys also define us, for to be completely normal is to be gray. So still we must reach out of who we are, though those risks may put us in the black. Our struggles, our journey...this is important now. But somehow, God will pull us out of this black/gray/white fog and into light -

And we will be whole.
