The Bucket of Teenage Angst
Praise for the New Layout
As many people who've ventured into the feedback forums within the last three hours or so, I've noticed a lot of people who dislike the new layout. Though, they are allowed to have their opinion (though, I doubt a new thread every minute is needed... stare ), I disagree with them and I would like to share mine.

I actually LIKE the new layout. I like it FAR better than the last layout that was introduced and I like the air and space that this simple design provides. It allows more room to focus on the main aspect of this site... it's forums and features instead of crowding it with stupid, needless effects and graphics.

Of course, with ever new feature introduced, there are some problems. I'd like to address a few popular points and some of my own dislikes.
  1. The colour white. Since when is this such a scandalous and controversial change? All past layouts relied heavily on white and no one has had a problem with it before. I mean, what exactly do you think the forum background colour for the last layout was? I am both light sensitive and cursed with poor eyesight and I am fine. If you are light sensitive to the point that the colour white bothers you, I really recommend you stop using the computer because that's what monitors do... EMIT LIGHT.

  2. Lag. Why are people always SO astounded when Gaia lags after a new feature is released? Gaia has ALWAYS lagged when something new and exciting comes along. Wanna know why? Because everyone wants to see, everyone logs on at once and everyone uses all the features at once. All you can do is have a little paitence! Gaia lagging is nothing new. Remember the database errors?

  3. The new header image. It... doesn't suit the site well, I agree. Not the fact they're on the beach (hello, Gambino Island?) but the fact they don't look especially extraordinary. If they were wearing OMG hats and some unique Gaia items, then I would like it better. smile

  4. The Font. Arial is not really a flexible font for use on large community sites. I don't like the font change and I would rather return to the favorites of Tahoma or Verdana.

  5. Non-hover navigation. I don't like having to load another page before I can get to the marketplace or forums. Bring the hover back, please.

  6. Padding. There are some padding issues with some smaller things that bother me, for example, with quotes in posts. But that's just a point from a design geek.

Basically, I think it comes down to people simply not liking or accepting change in general. It's just how some people are. They want things to stay exactly the same, forever, never changing. I can relate as I can be a stick in the mud at times too. But I usually get over it, accept it and move on pretty quick. wink

But, unfortunately, things just don't work like that. Things are always changing and things don't change back because you are unhappy. Gaia is not going to change the layout. They may *tweak* the layout, but they will not change it back. ACCEPT THAT FACT AT LEAST.

And if you are planning on leaving over a change like this: good riddance. You aren't a supportive and loyal Gaia member and many would be happy to see you go.

More items for us, anyways. 4laugh
