Born as the child of the Yonko Kaido, Yamato was destined to be his successor. Instead, Yamato developed a rebellious attitude, leading to his imprisonment by Kaido himself. He heard tales of the great Kozuki Oden and developed a desire to live life like him. Yamato began referring to himself as Oden and thus began identifying as a man.
