Description:
This is Daphne, a nymph of Greek mythology. After Eros shoots her with the lead arrow of hatred, and the god Apollo with the golden arrow of love, she runs from the love-stricken god. When he almost catches her, Daphne askes her father Peneus to either let the earth swallow her, or to change her form. He answers her call and transforms her skin to bark, legs to roots, and arms to branches. She is transformed into a laurel tree.
