As a huge pokemon fan (as in, just spent $40 for a used Emerald version) I love this idea. My only issue in that the bunny doesn't remind me much of Raichu. If you ever try again, check on Tektek with all the companions and see if there are any others you can use that are a bit more obvious. For example Dionaesil can be Carnivine and so on.
