You would wait for them..and wait...and wait. Then they'd call you "Sorry! Someone invited me to a party!". Your heart was broken. But you forced a smile and said "Have a good time!". You just cry there. In that spot knowing that, that one person that meant so much to you, would blow off your plans for another.
