- Description: Once a year a beautiful silver laurel tree grew from out of the clouds. Hermes, the moon’s guardian and mochi maker, had been working hard for the year and needed a break. He saw the tree and was entranced by its looks, but it was withering away. Afraid that it would die by the time he got help, he laid underneath it and remained with it until it died. The next night, Hermes went back to work for another year, waiting impatiently for the night when he could relax with it once more.
