The frigate Madagascar, loaded with two tonnes of gold and 110 passengers, sailed out of Melbourne on August 12th, 1853 and was never seen again. Miss Madagascar's swim entry honors the ship's lost passengers, doomed by the cargo's wealth to a watery grave.
