THE REBORN

the end and the beginning
chapter 1

I was human once, but i managed to beat death and became something else in the process. the only problem is that it wasn't my choice, not death and not immortality... i was murdered
I worked a ticket booth for a subway system, struggling to support my wife while saving up for a home away from the city life of New York CIty. I actually managed to make a nice life for myself, and it was even better for me when i beleived that my wife loved me.
That didn't change untill the night of my death. It was our 5th anniversary and i was on my way home to pick her up for our dinner.i was running a half hour early because my boss had let me off to surprise her. I parked up front in the parking garage and went up to our appartment on the second floor. As i neared the gold painted number 13 i pulled out my key and quietly opened the door, i expected her to be in the bedroom getting ready so it wasn't surprising when I didn't see her in the living room. I crept down the hallway, a bouqette of roses behind my back, then i heard moaning. i stopped trying to be quiet and went straight up to the door. i couldn't help but think no, no it can't be happening. but as if in response her moan turned into a pleasred scream. the roses fell to the floor. I was no longer in control of my body now, i kicked the door open and found another man in my place.
my temper flared but somehow I managed to keep a small amount of control, "who is this?" my voice was ice cold, and it was taking all my control not to attack them, kill them, decimate them where they stood. "he's no one!" my voice rose and my temper flared again, but i kept the fire inside. "HE MUST BE SOMEONE FOR YOU TO BE SLEEPING WITH HIM!" by now the man had made it over towards the bathroom while my attention was on her, but he made a mistake getting my attention.
"hey man just calm down." calm down? CALM DOWN? I JUST CAUGHT THIS STONER CHEATING WITH MY WIFE AND HE EXPECTS ME TO JUST CALM DOWN?!!! that was it i stormed over to him and kicked him through the bathroom door before climbing through the now shattered remains of it. i grabbed him by the throat and lifted him off the sink before slamming him into the mirror making sure there was shards stuck in his back before slamming him into the wall on the opposite side.each time he tried to say let go i lifted him higher, making sure the glass drug through his muscle and flesh, by now blood was already pooling on the floor.
There is a downside to me exacting this justice though, something that still haunts me today. You see, while i was torturing the stoner i forgot that my wife and i owned a gun, and she had the key. the next thing i knew i felt cold steel shaking against my head, i started to turn to face her, still holding up the man who was struggling for breath when she spoke the last words i would hear as a human being if you, could still call me that at this point. "I love you and i'm sorry." she pulled the trigger and the bullet went in just above and behind my left ear. As i fell i let go my eyes followed rebecca even as the rest of my body started shutting down. in the corner of my eyes i saw the stoner fall to his knees and start coughing blood. as my vision focused back on her, everything in slow motion since the gun fired, i saw her put the gun to her own chin and pull the trigger. i finally hit the ground with my arm stretched out, then she fell and landed in my arm, and when her body settled our eyes were locked and i died knowing that the last sight for each of us would be the other.
now i would like to take the time to tell you that death isn't bad, it doesn't hurt, once your gone you seem to float in blackness. peace surrounds you and flows in and through you. leaving the knowledge that you never have to worry again. You lose all connections to your body and you, your soul, float upward farther into the darkness. Unfortunately some one brought me back, and though death is painless being brought back couldn't hurt more. it starts with a tug to the core of your soul, your heart. it feels like you're a baloon that had been floating away when someone caught your string.you open your eyes to a harsh white light and then... then you feel the pain you missed in your death.
when my body adjusted i could sense that the stoner was gone and my wife was still dead in my arm. It wasn't till i could see that i realized there was someone else with me. then i got taste back as i saw that he was holding his wrist over my mouth and found the distinct metallicness of blood. i managed to focus on his eyes, they were a bright green but there was something different about them, there was a crimson ring of color around the people. It was something i would see in my own blue eyes from that day on, and in the eyes of every other vampire from that day on.

the awakening
chapter 2

I woke up two days later, realizing that i passed out from trying to focus. Thing is, that was the least of my worries. I rose to find a woman standing over me, a look of complete horror on her face, the face i will never forget. She was blonde 5ft 8 and had the features of an angel, ironic because she was constantly surrounded by death. i stood, a scalpal falling from my now open chest, i didn't even notice. something primal had taken over me, taken over my thoughts, my actions. I was filled with the urge, the need, to bite, to feast.
I stepped towards her. She was quivering in a corner now, so easy... if only she would run. I drew out each step, enjoying her fear, her panic. I stood in front of her, grabbing her by the chin and pulling her up to my level. I could see my eyes in her, and I watched as the crimson ring overtook the blue as I leaned in. I paused just inches away, breathing in the scent of lust mixed with fear. I sank my teeth in, my breath fogging her silver necklace. Her body tensed instantly, her arms flying around me... fingernails digging into my back as i drained the life from her.
After a while she went limp and I lowered her to the floor. What little blood was left flowed down her shirt as she stared at the floor, i knew she was dead.
With my control returning I actually realized what I had done, i closed her eyes and took her necklace as a reminder. I stood up, and started looking for the exit, my wounds healing as I went. I wiped my mouth as I entered the hall. The emergency exit wasn't to far to the left, and it was a better idea than risk being seen.
Once outside I found myself in an alley, and the next second someone was running out. It took me a second to realize that it was the stoner who had been with my wife. I bolted after him but only got a few steps before realizing that the necklace was the only thing I had on. I would have to track him down later, shouldn't be too hard... he was still wearing the blood stained clothes I had left him in. I turned and climbed into the dumpster, thinking how eventful life was after death. I started searching through the bags of trash for clothes, and to my luck I found an old bowling shirt, some coffee stained khaki pants and a pair of flip-flops.
While I dressed my thoughts turned to what had happened to me in there but I couldn't come up with an explination.when i finished i pulled the necklace from underneath the shirt and stopped to actually look at it. It was a celtic looking cross with a dragon wrapped around it, the dragon's wings spread behind the sides of the cross. I started to laugh, a silver cross on someone who just acted like a vampire. thats when the door burst open.
the thing that came out of it wasn't human, it didn't even look alive. it was wearing pitch black robes and it's head was hidden in the shadow from it's hood, there were two bright red glows coming from the shadow... and the hands that were sticking out of the sleeves were skeletal, barely covered with a thin layer of rotting flesh. in it's right hand was a scythe, the handle made from what looked like human spines. I knew it was death. In the other hand he was dragging something i couldn't see just yet. Thats when he threw it at my feet, it was a body... her body. "you see what you've done? are you happy? you have everlasting life but at what cost?" his voice was the voice of millions, all whispering the same thing at the same time. all i could do was stare. What did he mean? "you've become a monster, no longer human..." realization seemed to sink in for him then.
"You don't know, do you? well maybe it's better if you see it your self." the next thing i knew we were in my bathroom, and i was standing in the shower, watching as the past me had the stoner against the wall. I watched in horror as my wife ran in, fumbling with the gun before putting it to my head. i saw her face this time, the regret and sorrow plain as day as she pulled the trigger. then once again she turned the gun on herself. i tried to say something, do something to stop her, but I couldn't. This was the past, and i only a visitor, like someone at the movies. as her brains splattered the ceiling i saw the stoner run from the room, and my house. I only had to wait a few minutes before i saw what i was meant to. someone new came in, he was part of the film, at first i thought he was a detective, but when he knelt by our bodies he put his hand to the blood, then scooped it into his mouth. then he stepped over to our heads, and when he looked at me i got the impression he could sense something. he turned my limp body onto it's back, then he bit into his wrist. he squeezed the wound over my mouth till the blood started pouring in. then my formerly dead body started swallowing it.
prophecies
chapter 3

he stopped it then, death, he stopped the video. "you have become the thing of myth, a vampire, one who feeds off the living to survive, you are still pure, you have not swallowed the flesh yet, only the blood. there will be many who will try to get you to turn into one of them, a shadowfeaster as they call themselves, they are corrupted with the taste of human flesh, most would call them cannibals if they were still human. it is very important that you do not become one of them, or you will lose that spark of your soul that remains inside of you." the apartment melted away then and we were back in the dark alleyway. "if you fall, there is no afterlife for you, i will have to take you into eternal darkness, no light, no touch, no sound, not even your own, so i ask for your own sake, drink but never eat." and with that he was gone, he left me standing there alone, to face what would be an eternity of solitude. And where to begin?
I spent a month wandering the streets of New York, unnoticed by all, in those days, i had a great thirst, night after night i found my victims, but I never left them to die, I couldn't. I kept to deaths advise, wouldn't let the tiniest flake of skin go down my throat for fear that I would be condemned to a fate worse than hell. Then as months passed I found my thirst diminishing, I left less and less people laying in random doorways.
the end... for now
