• Payton’s brown hair whipped in her face as the tears of pain rolled down her face masked by the pouring rain. She looked into the eyes of Captain Hector Barbossa as she lay dying on the Pearl. “Payton,” he whispered to her as he picked her up into his arms, cradling her head into his chest. “Don’t leave me. I need you.” The softer side of the usually fierce captain began to show as tears began to well up in his eyes. Payton reached up slowly with her trembling hand and stroked his face with her hand which he leaned gently into. She began to speak in barely a whisper, “My time has come to go to the heavens beyond Hector, and I welcome it with open arms for this life is cruel and other than you I have no reason left to be here. Yet I know you are still here but I will always be with you, maybe not by your side but in your heart and above watching over you. Promise me one thing though.” Barbossa looked deeply in her brown eyes “Anything,” he said. “When I leave this Earth and join the heavens I want only one tear shed and not a tear of pain for what you have lost but a tear of happiness at what we have. I love you.” Hector leaned in and kissed her lightly on her cold lips, “I love you, too.” He looked into her eyes for the last time as they slowly began to close and her hand he had been holding began to loosen its grip. “Goodbye, Payton,” he whispered as he allowed only one tear to fall from his eyes on to her lifeless body.
