• One ~Sound of Silence~

She was lying on her front lawn underneath an oak tree. The flat blades of grass, freshly cut, scraped her lightly-tanned armed. The wind picked up just enough to pull on the silver bell on her charm bracelet; it chimed. Her dark, burnt-amber hair caught wind and landed all over her face. She let out a frustrated sigh as her slim fingers brushed her hair from her face.

She blinked once or twice, and opened her pale blue eyes. Her vision was graced with the sight of the green leaves. She smiled at how the light danced across the leaves as the wind blew. She stood and took off her light blue vest. She turned it around to see if it had acquired any grass stains; it hadn’t. She pulled her vest back over her white blouse, and proceeded to straiten her jean skirt.

Her head shot up and her long hair settled along her mid-back. She shook her head, had someone had called her name? She must have been day-dreaming too much; no one knew her here.

She rushed back into her house to get ready for her first day of school at Ayamatre High. She sighed again and thought to herself, ‘I hope I come out of this alive.’

She grabbed her blue-green book-bag and headed off for the bus stop, wondering how her day would proceed.

“Luna Summers!” The teacher called off the attendance sheet.

    “Here,” she replied meekly.

Around her she could hear the buzz. They were talking about her, she knew it. She nervously twiddled with her obsidian cat charm, and smoothed down her vest. Why couldn’t she just stay underneath her tree? Better yet, why did they need to move? She just hated when she was talked about. She gripped the ends of her blouse and stretched them over her cupped hands.

As her day dragged on, the world was unaware of a great power about to be awakened. That this day would be the start, not only of a new life, but of a whole new world…for Luna Summers.
