• “now.. Begin!” My heart raced rapidly as I faced my opponent. I just stood there not breathing. She looked the same. Trying to figure out what we were going to do. My opponent was……. My Best Friend. I had to fight her. This was for my life. If I didn’t defeat her then surely I would die. I would also be a higher rank in my village and be known as the head. if I didn’t die but failed, They would kill me. I would be useless here. Why did things have to be so complicated? I put the tips of my fingers on my knife.

Suddenly she threw One at me! I had no idea that she was going to do that! My heart collapsed. I finally understood that this had to be done. My heart seemed to turn to stone. I grabbed my knifed and held them in my hands. I gave her a glare and ran. My feet beat against the ground as fast as my heart. I trust my knifes toward her. The shock I her eyes surprised me. Ivy always been brave and confident. I Stopped and my feet skid against the floor.

These Fights were held every year for kids of fifteen years of age. We trained for this moment, and it was a moment that mostly every one feared. I know I did.

    I put
the blades back in the slip around my leg. What was her next move? I always new Ivy as the Mysterious one. “Nessy You know what your up against don’t you? Give up now and just let them kill you. Please don’t Make me kill you. It will be long and painful, please.” Ivy said to me. “never I wont give up!” I yelled. I trained night and day. For years I have trained this whole thing will prove my future, This world is about survival. My eyes pierced her could
Tell she was nervous I felt the energy in me, the burning fine. The will to win. I came at her with a huge punch . Ivy fell on the ground and wiped the blood from her mouth.

“no!” She said getting up and hitting me. Now it was on. My nails scratched her leaving gashing marks on her back. I ran away then grabbed her hair. I swung her and threw her. What had I become? Doing this to my Friend. Then I took out my knife. I knew she was mad now. It had only begun. But she didn’t get up. She just laid there. I wasn’t going to hurt her while she was on the ground so I sat by on a rock.

The wind whispered quietly and the autumn had begun. The leaves on the trees glowed a bright orange and red.
I laughed so did ivy. We sat in the woods picking up nuts and Finding pretty leaves to tuck in our hair. We grew tired of doing this and started to run through the woods, weaving in and out of the trees laughing. And the world laughed with us. Ivy fell and cried out. I rushed to her side and Sat her down. “ Are you alright?” I asked.
“ I think I’ll be fine.” Ivy said.
“ok” we kept walking. And finally we came to a wide open field. It was a hill like place. And we were at the top. Finally the sunset came. Ivy’s hair glowed like fire, while the sun hit it. I could tell she had a special heat inside her from that moment on. The wind played with our hair and danced by our cheeks. Nothing was more peaceful then that.

“Nessy!” Ivy yelled. “get back in it!” she said standing up now, getting into a position. I Closed my eyes then opened them. My long blond hair blew behind me. I grabbed my knife and still kept at a steady pace. She grabbed her knife too. And the two blades met. I threw my arm at her. She recoiled. We threw hits at each other like a swarm of bee’s when you step on there nest. I managed to dodge most of them. Finally her blade hit my skin. It felt like ice. I gasped and grabbed my arm. I knew my eyes got big and watery as I look at her. Ivy took a few steps back, regretting what she had done. I grabbed a piece of cloth and tied it around the cut.

Again I grabbed Ivy’s hair but this time I cut it all off. She grabbed what little she had left and Squealed. Her jaw dropped. I tied my hair up so she couldn’t get to mine. The sky got darker. The burning was still in Ivy’s eyes. Why was her fire so strong? I tried to feed my fire will anger but it just froze more. I couldn’t kill ivy, not ever. Was this what she though to. The cold made me shiver. I wasn’t the slightest bit sleepy. Now the moon appeared. Even though it was not yet night it was late evening. Me and Ivy played a bit of run around. I could tell she was trying to avoid fighting as much I was. The few who were watching, started laying back.

Blood had already been shed today, Most of the boys make a dirty and fast job of it. Some of the girls think it is Hot, But I believe its disgusting.

    “you know what?” Ivy asked,
    “hm?” I replied,
“you’re my best friend in the world.”
    I smiled big.
    “you too.”
We hugged and kept on with our running.
I struggled. I always envied ivy’s running. That day I began training more and more.

I snapped back out of my memory but then I couldn’t stop thinking images swirled in my head the I though about how me and ivy met.

I was crying up in a tree. My squeaky little voice echoed around.
A girl approached the tree and stood there. “hey!” she yelled
“whoa!” I screamed as I fell out of the tree.
“well aren’t you just a skinny thing? Are you alright?” she said helping me up
    “No…”
“well, What’s the matter? You were crying your eyes out.” Ivy said
“ My Cat died.” I said softly.
“aw that’s not good.” Ivy said with deep compassion.
“here how about you tell me your name.” Ivy asked
    “N-N-essy” I stuttered
“huh? Your going to have to speak a little louder”
    “Nessy.” I said
“still cant here you” Ivy sung.
    “ Nessy!” I shouted.
“now that’s better. Nessy, that’s a pretty name. I’m Ivy.”
    I nodded my head.
“ok, well I’ll see you tomorrow, Right?”
    “r-right.”
    “what?”
    “Right!”
    “ok.” she winked.
    I smiled.
That is how I met Ivy.

“Nessy! What is your problem? Stop tuning out!”
    “ok!”
Me and her battled out until we became scratched up, Bloody, and very dirty.
My feet stung from running around. And my hands had big gashes sliced through them. I couldn’t say ivy was in better shape. She trembled. And winced at every move she made. I knew she hurt a lot more in me. But did she hurt inside too? I know I did.
    “hurry up!”
“yea get it done with!” the people yelled
Ivy held up her knife. It moved back in forth in her shaking hands but the moonlight hit it and it was beautiful the way the sky looked right now. I breathed in a deep breath.
Ivy was close to me. I wonder what she was going to do to me. I quickly to the side and she sprung out at me. Her knifes hit me, it went right through my skin!. Through my body and came out my back! Blood poured over the spot. And tears rushed down my eyes. This was the end, I had lost. A failure. And every one watching. My own best friend killed me. All The sudden Ivy burst into tears too and held the knife to her other knife to her heart, She stabbed it through and I screamed she landed in my arms bushing the blade in me deeper. I flinched but I couldn’t feel the pain of the knife right now. I couldn’t believe any of this but I knew it was true. I still held her in my arms. Her warmth she had once was now cold. The warmth and strength I once envied Is now lost. The outgoing girl who was my best friend is now … dead. The crowed cheered that I had won. I could now only hear my heart beat in my ears like drums from a tribe.
Then I yelled out , “no!”
“I have not won. I have lost. She killed her self! And I will be dead too!” silence broke out and I pulled out the knife from me. Now I could feel it. My insides filling with blood. I could taste it in my mouth. I also stabbed my self in the heart.

    Epilogue

N essy and Ivy were left there. To their village they were now nothing. Ivy stayed in Nessy’s
Arms, they soon rotted away, and became nothing but bone that was soon covered and worn away by dirt.
