• It's said that, on a certain night, the stroke of midnight between All Hallow's Eve, and the First of November, the thin line between the spirit world, and the real world is crossed. Always, as a child, I had wished to witness this crossover, but I was always cheated of my prize.
It just so happened that, while driving home on October 31st, I found myself on the side of the road, my car out of gas, sitting beside me. Unsure of what to do, I strode over to the road, stuck out my arm, and held up my thumb.
I don't know how long I waited on that stretch of road, but as darkness began to fall, I consented to walk home. And, as the Sun sank, it felt as though there was some other sort of sinking... a change in the world around me. The temperature seemed to drop, and a low haze crossed my eyes. I glanced at my watch, it was midnight exactly. I had grown from my childish superstitions, but there was still a cloud of doubt floating around my head. I sped up my step, wishing I was home all that faster. The haze around me grew darker, and I hurried along even more.
It was then that I sensed the crunching of grass behind me. The darkness behind me prevented me from seeing more than a few feet behind me. All I could make out was a faint red light behind me. As I stopped walking, the light would stop coming towards me, and as I walked away, the light moved towards me. It never came any closer, but just stood there. I broke into a run, and from a run into a sprint, but no matter how quickly I ran, I could still hear some large creature running at me. Suddenly, I stumbled and fell, turning to face whatever was tailing me. A car swept by, and the glow of the car's headlights illuminated a hulking figure, with two glowing red orbs for eyes. No scream came to my lips, as I gazed at the shape before me. Then, as suddenly as it had come, the beast vanished. I glanced at my watch, it was 1:00A.M. I ran all the way home, and locked the door behind me.
