    Part 1:
When the Devil Stole the Moon's Heart

    Chapter 4

tab Emmett didn’t react the way I thought he would. There was no yelling, no lectures, and no physical violence.
tab He just ran one of his hands through his orange hair and sighed. “Well, this is a problem.” He said, exhaustion showing in his red-orange eyes.
tab “I’m sorry Emmett, I really am.” I apologized. “I don’t know why, but I just couldn’t stand it anymore! When I thought of dealing with any more of her torture, I wanted to jump off a cliff!”
tab He chuckled. “No need to apologize, Charlie, I probably would have done the same.” He was fiddling with his Solar pendant, which was like my Lunar pendant, except instead of a silver moon on a silver chain, it was a gold sun on a gold chain. “What did you say her name was?”
tab “Alexa LaGuarda.” I answered. “But I might as well call her a devil.” Now that I thought about it, it was easy to picture Alexa with devil horns, a tail, and a tiny pitchfork. I both laughed and cringed at the idea. When I looked back at Emmett, I noticed that he had moved out of his casual position on the couch and was sitting up, deep in thought.
tab “What’s wrong?” I asked him, feeling concern for my only companion.
tab “It’s nothing, don’t worry. It’s just that…” he paused, not sure what to say. “It’s just that I know I’ve heard the name LaGuarda somewhere before, but I just can’t put my finger on it.”
tab I thought about it for a second, but I couldn’t remember hearing the name LaGuarda before I met Alexa. “It must have been before we started traveling together, old friend, because I can’t remember it.”
tab “Maybe…” he mumbled, deep in thought. Then, as if it was a sign, a small picture fell out of his pocket. It was the only picture he had. It was a picture of him and that group of friends I mentioned earlier, with Emmett in the middle, smiling. He picked it up slowly and looked at it. Hi eyes widened for a few seconds. He quickly closed them and his face went blank.
    tab “What’s wrong?” I asked.
tab “It’s nothing.” He mumbled. “I just remember where I’ve heard it, that’s all.” He opened his eyes and I could see the sorrow in them. He handed me the picture and pointed to the person standing behind him. “His name was Zero LaGuarda. He was a few years older than the rest of them. He was my best friend, even though we didn’t know much about him.”
tab I looked at the person he was pointing at. Zero LaGuarda had short dark blue hair, eyes that were yellow like a cat’s, and a sarcastic smile. He was related to Alexa, there was no doubt about it. He had his arms wrapped around a girl with brown eyes and red hair. I handed the picture back to Emmett and quickly changed the subject.
tab “So what am I going to do this Sunday?” I asked him.
tab He sighed. “Simple. Just go for a walk around town. Nothing more. Luckily, she promised that she would leave you alone afterwards. All you have to do is try not to form a relationship of any kind with her. Then you can ignore her for the rest of the year.” He concluded. He went back to his casual position on the couch and closed his eyes. I got up and decided to go to bed. As I walked toward my room, I saw Emmett out of the corner of my eye. He was looking at the picture. A tear was running down his face.
