• “Nessie! How’ve you been?!” Jacob said stepping back to look me up and down smiling.

    “Umm…great Jake…how about you?”

“Good, I’m doing good.” He bit his lip and frowned slightly.

“So why are you here?” I asked tossing a streak of brown hair out of my face.

“What do you mean? Last time I checked anyone was free to live in Forks.”

I glared and replied, “You know exactly what I mean.”

“Well Nessie let’s not blow things out of proportion here. I have as much right as anybody else.”

He was starting to frustrate me by avoiding my question. “Why are you at the high school then?”

“Because…you’re here.” He said it slow as if he were stating the obvious.

“Exactly.” I shoved past him and out the door into the misty rain. Cars were starting to fill up the parking lot by now.

“Come on Ness!” I heard him following behind me, but kept walking. “I won’t give up!”

“Go back to La Push Jacob.” I pulled my jacket around me tighter even though I wasn’t cold and kept walking.

    “I can’t.”

Without slowing I asked, “What? Why not?”

“Because I’ve already enrolled in this school.”

Spinning around I noticed he was right behind me and smacked his arm, “Why the hell would you do that! My parents are going to kill you!”

“Nah it’ll be ok. Besides I’ve kinda missed em’!”

“Whatever.” I turned back around and headed for building C. Maybe I could convince them to home school me. I didn’t like the thought of going to school with Jacob every single day for the next two years.

“What? You don’t think they’re over it yet?” He called from behind me.

“I highly doubt it Jake! Not like you separated on good terms. You know the agreement. Make this easier on all of us and just leave, please?”

I could tell from his lack of words that he was thinking, “We’ll see about that.”
