• “Lets just say tonight is going to be rough, if she’s going to survive it’s going to be because she want to. We have done everything that we possibly could; it’s all up to her if she wants to survive.” Miss. Marie asked the Dr. Martain while looking down at her daughter’s unconscious body. A single tear ran down her cheek. Miss. Marie patted at the tear before it could fall to the ground.
“Can she make that decision while unconscious?” Miss. Marie asked the doctor.
“Her body maybe unconscious but her brain still works, so if her brain gives up her system will completely shut down and she is in gods hands after that.” Dr. Martain hung his head in shame as if there could have been something they could have done but deicide that it was a waste of time to even try. Dr. Martain slowly walked out of the hospital room to his next assignment.
Miss. Marie grabbed hold of one of her daughters cold hands and began to sob lightly, between sobs she managed to choke out “Please, baby. Please live, you are my only family left. You hear me Stephanie? Don’t you dare give up!” She talked to herself, hoping that with some kind of miracle that her daughter would hear her.
As the night progressed Stephanie’s skin grew colder, her breath more raged, and her face more pail. And as these features grew more so did her mothers sob until it was a full-blown cry, a plea for help. She prayed to god for some kind of miracle for her daughter. She continued to say, “She doesn’t deserve this fate, this was not her fault…I will hunt down the person responsible but please do not take my baby.”
Around the time of midnight, Stephanie’s boyfriend of three years received a call that Stephanie was more than likely not going to survive the night. So Anthony rushed as quick as he could to see his girlfriend’s unconscious body.
“How’s she doing Martha?” Anthony asked as he opened the door to see Martha’s body hovering inches above Stephanie’s cold body, Martha was repeatedly smoothing the hair of her daughters body, looking as to comfort Stephanie.
“The doctors said that the only thing we could do is be faithful.” She cried as the words spilled out. “I just hope faith is enough, her body grows colder with each and every passing minute.”
“What happened to her?” He asked calmly to try to get Martha to calm down.
“Drunk driver.” Was all she could force upon her throat.
“Who was it? They are dead! How could they do this?” Anthony was livid.
“Her friend…She refused to let Stephanie to drive…and that was Stephanie’s only way of transportation, well her friend drove right through an intersection, the other guy had the right of way and pulled out and hit Stephanie’s side of the car…and that’s how she ended up here.” Martha finished and the machine that was tracking Stephanie’s heartbeat came to a rise, her heart started to speed. It wasn’t much faster than a normal beat but a little faster than it should.
    “Mommy?” Stephanie asked “Anthony?”
“Baby, it’s been so long since you have called me mommy, your sixteen. Lets be strong baby.” Her mother rambled on switching the subject every two seconds or so. They talked for at least a half hour.
“Miss. Marie, do you mind if I talk to Stephanie alone for a minute.” Asked Anthony.
“Sure.” She smiled and proceeded through the door. Anthony took a seat by Stephanie’s bed. Stephanie began to cry.
“Hey baby.” Anthony cried as well.
“Hey” She said and her voice broke as another tear found it’s way out of her eye. “I just wanted to tell you I love you before I die, remember that. No matter where you are I’ll ways be with you, okay?” Stephanie cried. The moon found its way through the curtains of the hospital. It created the perfect picture. Anthony leaned over the bed and kissed her gently.
“Don’t you even dare speak like that!” He said softly but the fierceness ran thick. “See you have to be alive for this.” He kissed her softly among her lips and he pulled the box from his back pocket and when he pulled away he opened the box and handed the ring to Stephanie. “Stephanie, please I ask you to be my wife. I love you and I will protect you from things like this, things that will wined you up in the hospital.”
Stephanie for the first time had tears of happiness release from her eyes.
“I will, and if not in this life, then in the next life.”
“I told you not to say that, did I not?” He said with a tear in his eye, he knew his chance were more than likely that she would die tonight, he just didn’t want to be reminded of it. Stephanie yawned and slowly faded back to her sleep.
Day passed and not a sign of her to awake, days soon turned to weeks and weeks into months.
The day of Stephanie birth seventeen years later was the first day in months with any sign of anything.
Anthony came for his daily visit and started to talk to Martha when the machine started to speed and Stephanie’s breath became ragged as it had months before. Martha began to cry, Stephanie was waking up, or so she thought…and then the machine seconds later went from a rough line to a sold straight line.
“Stephanie!” Both Martha and Anthony cried…
Stephanie’s friend Ryline was arrested that day for murder with a vehicle.
Looks like faith was just not enough for poor Stephanie.
