• "Im late!"

I hurried down the sodden sidewalk, my new black skirt becoming drenched in the process. As I scurried down the pavement the sound of the rain gently beating against window panes of passing buildings could be heard rythmatically everywhere. Tall buildings loomed in the haze of the rain around me with water dripping from the gutters.

More liquid splashed my leather briefcase as I rounded the corner to my small office building on 45th Street. As I approached the doors I tripped suddenly and a small mew came from under my tangled feet. I pulled my legs away quickly and discovered a small and fluffy kitten sitting in a puddle. She was drenched to her skin and the rain seemed to make a small aura around her......blue fur coat?

I shook my head at my stupidity. There couldn't possibly be a blue kitten. I probably just hit my head when I fell.

I stood up and looked myself over. My skirt was now covered in a slimy mud and my briefcase too deep in the murky puddle to retrieve. The neat bun my hair had been this morning was long gone and replaced by a soggy mess. My square framed glasses were crooked on my nose and usually I would be screaming like mad but at the moment all I could concentrate on was the kitten. It honestly looked blue.

I scooped the poor thing up and gently laid her in my coat pocket. She was so small that only the very tip of her ear poked out. She closed her eyes peacefully as I strode in my sad state into the sliding glass doors of the building.

    "No kitten!"

The little bundle had climbed out from the large drawer I had placed her in and was swinging a tiny paw at a paperclip lying on my desk. As I pset her back into the drawer I examined her closely.

"I think I'm going insane.......she still looks blue!"

As I looked closer I knew for sure I held in my hands a blue kitten. The little scrap looked up at me with adorable hazel eyes. But there was something different. These eyes held intellegence that I thought an animal could never have. I set her down and rubbed my eyes. It was official, Im crazy.

Then as I sat down to rest my head a shudder filled my office. The floor shook and an antique Chinese vase fell with a clatter to the floor, shattering to pieces. I whirred my head up and looked for the source. Then a blinding green light filtered in through my window and the wall exploded. My mouth hung agape as the weirdest thing Id ever seen happened. A cloaked figure walked from the blinding light. I shouted at it but my cry was deafened my a high pitched sound coming from somewhere. I crumpled to a paralyzed heap on the floor as the thing stepped over me and opened up the draw containing the kitten. I pulled on the figures cloak, pleading with it to just go away but it never headed me and scooped the kitten into its cloth covered arms. The kitten gave a happy squeal and cuddled into the arm of the thing. I stared in amazement at how familiar it seemed to be with this thing. I was about to shout some more at that moment but the high pitched noise finally broke me and my head thumped on the carpet as I passed out.
