The Eve of Eternity: Chapter1 - Heart Throbbing Pain
"Damn... I thought for sure I would have already been home by now..." a young man says with a groan. His loud footsteps were easily heard in the heavy rain, especially in the puddles he was running through. The water was splashing up violently with each of his steps that he took. "If only it wasn't for this rain, I would have been there already...” he groans once more as he speaks. The young man was an orphan cast away from society on the day of his birth. He never knew the face of his parents, or who he really was. He was raised by farmers shortly after birth, and always questioned his appearance. It was fairly obvious to tell though, that he wasn't the son of the farmers who raised him. Even despite that there was no one who would question it, not even Deckard himself.
His parents both had very dark brown hair, almost black in fact. His father was of an average build and his mother was about the same. His father was very strong, having grown up as a farmer also. He was a very well-respected man, as far as the farmers went, so he was the person who was mainly in charge of handling negotiations and talking with the upper class political people. Deckard, however, was unlike both of them in many ways. The only similarity that he shared with his adopted parents was his kindness and his strong body, but only because of the difficulty of the farming he went through daily. Deckard had deep blue eyes, eyes that looked as if they could pierce a person's heart just by looking at it. His hair was a golden blonde, and it was extremely wavy. Even though he was already 20, Deckard had still not grown any facial hair; his face was completely devoid of it. His popularity with the local townspeople was pretty impressive too, but with the standing his step-father had in the village it was a no brainer for the reason why.
Deckard suddenly collapses into a deep puddle, tired from running for so long to return home. His father had told him to be back several hours ago, but he was caught up in the moment. Deckard had a bad habit of carving wooden swords and practicing with them out in the middle of the nearby forest. For the most part, no one ever saw him, except one person on occasion. His father's best friend had a daughter named Estellise. Estellise would sometimes follow Deckard into the woods, only to end up getting caught by him. Whenever he caught her, he'd always pinch her nose and tell her, "You know it's dangerous in the forest, so why do you follow me all the time." After that, he'd simply grin at her for a moment and then laugh. Estelle, as he called her, might have been quite beautiful, but under all that beauty was the heart of a warrior. She too, liked to practice with wooden swords, and so the two of them would end up sparring together for hours and hours until it was finally night time.
Estellise would always remember that she needed to be home right away, and so she would usually leave before Deckard did. Deckard, always one to forget the time, would end up staying in the forest a bit longer. Tonight was no exception to this either, as he was already late in heading home. After lying in the puddle for awhile, he regained his strength to move again and quickly stood up to continue running home, only to see a sight he never imagined he'd see. As he finally came out of the forest, there was a bright red light in the far distance. "Wha... what the!? That's... that's the farm!!" He looked on in horror at what he saw, unable to comprehend it fully. "Mom... Dad...." he quickly began running towards the farm, the farm which was now burning brightly even in the heavy rain. "MOM! DAD!" his voice got louder and louder while he repeated those two words, until suddenly a thought ran into his mind. Estellise left before he did, did that mean..? His next instinct was to find Estellise. With all his strength he sped towards her family's farm, yelling her name out, tears already filling his eyes from the thought of not only his parents dead, but also his best friend. The girl who he shared all his secrets with and who understood him better than anyone else. "Estelle... please is safe, please!" he cried out as he ran.
Finally, he reaches the farm. It too, was also burning; or rather it was already burnt down completely. From the looks of what went on, this farm had been targeted before the farm his family owned. He quickly searches the ruins, finding only two bodies, the bodies of Estellise's parents. Although he was still filled with grief, a bit of relief filled his mind. "The lake!" he suddenly thought. Yes! The place Estellise went to when she was troubled with something. The serene sound of the lake always made her feel at ease, and there was only one person who knew to find her there when she was no where else. The one person she knew she could count on to save her when things got bad... Deckard.
Once again, he starts running quickly, this time to the lake. He began praying in his mind, praying for her safety. Soon, the sound of crying was heard, although only slightly. As he neared the lake, the figure of a girl came into view. It was Estellise, and she was safe, but she was crying her heart out for the loss of her family. "Estelle..." Deckard wraps his arms around her tightly, letting her cry it all out in his arms. "W-why? Why did this have to happen Decks?" Deckard shook his head, "I'm not sure... my family's farm... they got it too. The whole village is probably--" he stops himself short when he thought of the village. Bandits, it had to have been bandits! Recently, there were bandits seen in the mountains to the north. Although they stayed there, it still could've been them he thought silently to himself.
Suddenly, a sharp pain runs through the two of them. At first, neither of them knew what had just happened, but soon they began to feel it. A second sharp pain runs through them again, although it was different this time. Blood began to seep into they're clothes, and they soon fell onto their sides on the ground. They had been stabbed, stabbed in the back with a long sword. The pain was now throbbing violently in both of them, as their blood soaked the ground of which they now laid upon. "E- es- estelle...” Deckard was the only one still conscious. It was still unclear as to what had happened, but he knew that he and Estelle had been stabbed. A short moment later, his eyes fell to rest, as the rain beat down upon the two bodies.

- Not bad. You start off in present tense, however, then almost immediately go into past. Maybe a typo? Overall it was okay, though.
