• A man walked into the bar and grimaced as the smell of cheap beer and vomit came to his nostrils. He quickly found a seat as far from the humans as possible, and almost immediately he felt everyone in the tavern staring at him. A quick glare from him sent them back to whatever they were doing. This came as no surprise to him; everyone stared at him, largely because he was born with the ears and tail of a wolf. A waitress walked up and he noticed she was blushing, she timidly asked what he wanted to drink. He replied in a kind and gentle voice, “Just a glass of water.” She quickly walked away and immediately brought him his drink. He handed her a few coins and said, “I see you’ve noticed my tail and ears,” she replied very nervously, “Yes, are they apart of a costume?” He said, “No, I was—but was cut off as a large man stumbled toward him and said, “Boy, take that costume off this isn’t Halloween,” he reached for his ears but he moved quickly and pinned the drunkard against a wall. As he the man screamed for him to let go the other man said, “Gladly,” and broke the man’s arm. The other man stormed out as everyone crowded around to see what happened. He got halfway down the street and heard someone running behind him. He quickly turned and pulled the zweihander off his back but stopped in mid-swing as a little girl ran up to him. She said in an innocent voice, “Mister, is this yours?” She held up a beautiful gold ring, it was in the shape of a wolf’s head, the moon glinted off the gold and the blood red rubies set as the eyes. He took it from her and kindly said, “Yes, wherever did you find it?” She answered, “It fell from your pocket as you left and my mother said to return it.” He said, “Let me meet your mother so I can thank her properly.” He followed the little girl back to the tavern and met her mother; it was the blushing waitress who had met earlier. He thanked her and asked if there was a room open for the night. She said, “Yes there is, and by the way what is your name?” He replied, “My name is Fenrir.” She showed him his room and left him alone for the night. Fenrir bathed and layed down to rest but couldn’t because every time he closed his eyes he had the same nightmarish vision.
